What do you reckon the chances are? Brazil in a mess, riots, police brutality, building works behind.
As one of only a few countries who could take it on at short notice...you never know!

Oh, bugger, that would invole FIFA making a call instead of burying their heads

There were some claims made a while ago that England were the standby for it, if anything were to go horribly wrong.
Can't see it happening, though.

The odds on it happening are very long indeed, but the vids coming out of brazil don't look particularly good. They're due the Olympics too of course. Manchester 2016?

For a moment I thought you were asking what the chance of us winning it was... probably even longer than the chances of hosting.

If it were to happen, it wouldn't surprise me if Brazil were to pull out of the tourny in protest...

Also look at what happened in London the summer before the Olympics, much more shocking than the Brazil protests (which is essentially a civil rights movement), there's still plenty of time to turn it round.

Looks like the protesters have won the bus fare battle too, good on them, shame its opened up many other cans of worms.

I guess they wouldn't re-run the qualies and brazil would qualify as hosts because they haven't had a qualification chance. So we could be the only hosts to not qualify, lol

Of course, then FIFA after all the excuses to not do it at the time, would next year make a rule so it wouldn't happen to another country like it did to unlucky old England!

If it were to happen, entry under 'co-hosts' would be difficult to deny after Sth Korea & Japan...who knows...who cares! <laugh>

Totally true, forgot that was a year before Olympics

Greece was in turmoil a couple of months before the summer 2004 Olympics, but remarkably managed to complete all the infrastructure in time and at great expense before returning to the chaos we see today. Brazil will probably scrape by in similar fashion with some help.

Greece had a lot of EU funding to make that happen...but undid all that work by thinking the various stadiums and arenas would sustain the Olympic crowds at any point afterwards.

Nobody mentioned this fact to Seb Coent or any of the other LOCOG bods, but then again it's not like they'd listen anyway.
