What rubbish . Right from the start... "largely warmed the bench at Madrid", really? So his average of 40 games a season while there was benchwarming was it?
Love Rooney, loved Beckham, worshiped George Best and my hero of all time, the great John Atyeo, absolutely hate Holloway we are all entitled to our opinions..
This post started as a thread about a club going out of business, yet ends up about 2 ex Man Utd players, WTF... Very sad for Hereford, I spent a large part of my life in around the City, and my wife is born and in-bred Herefordian. The sad reality is people would rather watch the Rooney & Beckhams of this world than the likes of Hereford. A lesson to all the smaller clubs out there
Love Beckham, Henry, Pires, Lampard, Scholes and many more. Grew up watching them and each are masters in their positions. Henry being the best of the bunch though...
Yep - that's what the stats say 4 or 5 seasons there and 116 apearances. That's hardly 40 games a season ! If it was over 5 campaigns its barely 20 games a season 21 year career and 523 appearances for all clubs. so an average of about 24 games a season throughout his career Bit of a lightweight if you ask me.
So 523 plus 115 internationals = 638 Louis Carey played 588 in 19 years - would not call him lightweight!
So many good players Maybe a thread for the summer - everyone could pick their all time PL XI (I should say to be fair that Becks would probably not get in mine)
Distorting the facts to suit your argument... he spent 4 years, not 4 or 5 at Real Madrid. He played 155 games (not 116) in all competitions over those 4 years, which is 38.75 games a season; more than Cristiano Ronaldo played in his first year at Real Madrid. If that's "benchwarming" then god knows how many you need to play to be a regular.
Um no, just quoting the figures presented to me when I searched ! You obviously know a lot more and follow him a lot closer than I do. Well done.
'Basically this. It's the same as people who can't spot the talent Wayne Rooney has' Mentioning Beckham in the same breath as Rooney is beyond belief. Beckham and Beckham went as a 'package' to Madrid to sell shirts - check out their sales in the far east. Nothing to do with football.
Agreed on that However, i do feel Ferguson called it correctly when he said Beckham was not totally focused on his game. He could have been so much more, football wise. It would be nice for an Englishman to over-acheived for his country. Not since Lineker has this happened
For anyone interested in the future of Hereford United, the suspension by the FA has now been lifted after the required paperwork was delivered to the FA. SMALL CLUB IN A SMALL CITY, BUT STILL FIGHTING FOR IT'S FUTURE. GOOD LUCK!
Yeah Real Madrid definitely signed a player and played him for 45 games in his first season just for shirt sales. Cheers
That's exactly what they did. As did AC Milan and PSG Do you honestly believe it was ever about football rather than massaging his ego/bank balance/precious image ? His league career and effectiveness ended the day he left Man U. Image over substance ever since Old Trafford.
I think people who knock the likes of Beckham and Rooney are doing it from a jealously perspective. I hated Beckham against Argentina in 98, loved him against Greece in 2001 and the same Argentina in 2002. Hated Rooney against Portugal in 2006 but if he was to bang in the winner in a World Cup Final or even a Euro Final then he will be elevated to god like status in my book. Maybe they haven't been the best footballers the world have ever seen but would I like to be in their boat earning the money they have earned playing the game I love. Too right I would
Nothing to do with jealousy There are many better paid sportsmen and people in many other walks of life than Beckham What I object to is the media hype, crap and spin surrounding him when people call him a legend, because he just isn't. Never was, and never will be in the true sense of the word. Rooney isn't a legend IMO either but I do like the effort he puts into every game and the ground he covers.
Fair point I'm not sure if I would call him a legend either, but being sad and bored at work I've looked up the definition of legend, which is as follows legend/ˈlɛdʒ(ənd/ noun 1.a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated. 2.an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field. 3.an inscription, especially on a coin or medal. I would say he would fall under point 2 and therefore can be classed as a legend!
Fair enough Using those boundaries and definitions, lets extend the legend tag to Fred West, Jimmy Saville, Jack The Ripper, Dr Crippen, and Hitler then.
