If we can pick up our form again we'll finish 4th. As we currently lie 17th in the 8 game form table I would be more than happy to take our chances in the play offs. Any continuation of recent results and it's highly likely we could miss out altogether...which if happens will result in one holy mess occurring which quite frankly just doesn't bear thinking about.
Anything less than play-offs now would indicate the sort of tailing off the cynics have been predicting all season, failure of Bielsa's system and the likelihood that it might happen again next year - definition of madness being repetition of the same thing and expecting a different outcome. Play-offs would represent a good season, autos a great one. I've enjoyed it all the way through anyway, at least we'll still be in the hunt at Easter for once.
The logic is signified in the respective goal differences which are always a useful barometer. WBA +22 Norwich +21 We're 4th best on +16 and treading water.
Barometer of what? Useless unless tied in points. I'll take points any day & bugger the goal difference.
To me it's clear indictor that a team is both attacking and defending well on a consistent basis. Also that many of their victories come by more than one goal thus enabling substitutions to both rest and rotate the squad during matches, something which could prove vital towards the end of what is acknowledged as one of the toughest and most demanding leagues in the world. Of course points are ultimately more important but the question posed by your good self was to provide reasoned logic as to why WBA and Norwich may finish above us.
In fairness two teams with best goal difference usually get two top spots. It’s a fair indicator WJ still lots of games to sort ours
Would love to say hi...but already too many accusations of string pulling from the cognoscenti on here as it is.
Goal difference is a reasonable guideline... but it throws up anomalies West Brom put 7 past qpr at the start of the season when qpr were sh*t. The differences we’re talking are nothing. For all we were poor against Norwich, we lost to 3 deflected goals. If they don’t go in we win 1-0 are 4 points clear with a better goal difference. This poll doesn’t exist and everybody’s thinking its in the bag. West Brom and Norwich are good attacking teams with relative poor defensive records... that type of team can get inflated goal differences as they are in essence, flat track bullies. We’re not as clinical as they are... partly because we force sides to defend in numbers and it makes them hard to break down. Of course there’s a chance that it will cost us in the end, nothing is a given, but it’s just as likely that someone will catch a drubbing and the goals will flow easier. On the stats coaches look at... chances created, shots, chances conceded etc... Leeds have been top of most of them all season. Maybe it’s why a large amount of opposition coaches have said we’re the best team in the league. We have been the best team in the league, we’ve had a poor run of results on the back of a run of individual mistakes. But we’ve been the better team in most of those matches... we were yesterday. If the mistakes stop, we go up in top 2, if they don’t it might be playoffs. Jeez, I am the most cynical glass half full guy... and you lot make me seem like the happiest happy clapper since happy mcclappy happily clapped his way all the way home to Claptown after getting a happy all clear from the clap clinic.
I feel like that sometimes on here Milky, I'm thinking it might be more appropriate to change my nick to Deliriously Overjoyed White
Despite our bad run of late, we are going up as champions, Norwich' luck will run out soon and they will have a bad run, only thing to stop us going up is the bent EFL and incompetent/bent refs 1st Leeds United 2nd West Bromwich Albion 3rd Norwich
No need for that bud, just change your attitude... you know the old saying, when in rome, do as the doom mongering miserable cnuts
