Bloomin eck we can't have one thread in tribute to a proper legend with out it being highjacked with slight digs at other fans and general I told you so's.

Definitely in my top 5 city players with; Bowen, Goss, Hucks and Malky. Part of the best ride city fans will ever experience!

    Grant Holt we salute you!

    Bah!

Just what I would expect from our club. I think it was crucial that he stayed last year (wonder if he would have stayed had Lambert not left), which CH saw straight away and was backed by DM and the board. This year it is not crucial for the club, and Holty's best interests should be respected. And before someone jumps on me saying there's no room for sentiment in football, maybe I can point out that there is a difference between sentiment on the one hand, decency and a proper sense of values on the other. (By the way, saying that there is no room for sentiment in football is a bit rich coming from football fans IMO <laugh>.)

Regarding Holty himself, your post says it as far as I'm concerned. <ok>

Should the move to the Pie-Eaters go ahead GH will be owed a debt of gratitude for what he achieved for NCFC in his relatively short time with us. The leadership and volume of goals in the two promotion seasons were immense for us and he showed what a class act he was with his play and goal tally in Lamberts season in the Prem.

Personally I felt that his abilities had waned last season (I recall posting a thread asking What Has Happened to Grant Holt?). Whether this was due to physical deterioration, issues in his personal life, being asked to play in a different role in a system which does not suit him or a combination thereof it is true that he never gave less than 100% but that his 100% last season did not give as much to the team.

I feel that the time is right for him and the club to move on with good memories and no rancour. Lambert was a legend and (IMO) the person most responsible for our rise up the divisions but the way he moved on left a very bitter taste in the mouth. Much better for Holty to leave as club captain to bring some revenue in for the club and get a move that suits his personal curcumatances and free up the shirt for the next generation of NCFC strikers.

I would have found it a bit sad to see him sitting on the bench week in, week out and given his stage in his career it makes sense for him to drop a division and batter Championship defences every week.

If it is to be farewell then farewell and thanks for the memories Mr Holt. You will always be welcome back at Carrow Road.

PS Hope he knocks a few more in against the boys down the road too!

i believe this is the perfect time for GH to move on. if he stayed and his abilities waned on the field for us, our memories would be that little bit tarnished. this way he leaves with his aura intact and we can only thank him for his contribution (very large) in the cause of our progress. thank you Grant, and every success in you future.

Fair enough. If the move is down to personal reasons then I retract my criticism of the club management on the other thread.
I do think it's not the best situation to have our top striker and captain move on with 3-4 unproven forwards needing to step up straight away. But agree that (sometimes!) other considerations come first.

All the best to you Grant. I don't think we'd have made it here without you.

Tell you what, when they do play at PR, if there are any more than two in the away end you can guarantee they're Canaries!
