SuperJ what I was driving at is, does AW have full autonomy as regards player purchases? Does he REALLY tell the board or whoever controls the purse strings we need reinforcements and they should not go over a certain price? Well Higuain went for 25ish mill, how much were we prepared to pay? Did we actually bid, if we really are in the market for a striker, and Suarez's deal does not happen, do we have a plan B? I really can't think of another name, I am sure there are strikers out there who can improve our current first team. I really cannot blame Liverpool for playing hardball with a team who they see as the direct rival for that last champions league spot! I just hope they have another plan, if the Suarez deal does not happen.
Can't see it. If you look at around at the type of players that are available, it's not that great, because a lot of those players that can take us to the next level have already moved. For me, it's Suarez or bust.
ahh i see , so the PLAYERS are the club now ? so if we sold them all and bought a load of rejects you would still be happy because they are the club . YOU are the insidious enemy of Arsenal FC . You dont care whats BEST for the club . You support all decisions regardless of validity . When its on the road to decay and decline ( relative to former rival clubs ) , you say , "straight ahead it is then , no turning ...whatever , for i support Arsenal .." tsk tsk .
So, we have you and your chums slaughtering the board, the manager & a number of players, yet that still doesn't constitute 'the club'? Really? Maybe you will concede the point after you start attacking the stewards, or do we need to wait for the hot dog vendors to take a few hits too? Give up, you're embarrassing yourself mate. p.s. I have highlighted the lies I was talking about earlier. You lot just can't help yourself can you...
That is a big worry, because Suarez is banned for at least the first 4 games. Liverpool can decide to hold on unless we bid silly money (that is not going to happen) so we reach a stalemate, Suarez remains a Liverpool player and has 2 weeks to sort his head out after the transfer window closes.
by george i think you are finally getting it . They are NOT the club . They are caretakers . Temporary and transient . They will be GONE one day , by the grace of god. And Arsenal will still be here , but in what state ? Theres the rub .
Judging by the above, we are always transient, therefore there is no AFC? That's just your wishful thinking chum. Try as hard as you like, but you can't wish the mighty AFC away.
i liked the bit where you say that we are NOT on the road to decay and decline . That a big lie aint it. Winning nothing for nearly a decade. Cant attract Higuaine, he would rather go to Napoil . Dont even bother trying to get the real class players because there aint a cat in hells chance now of attracting them . Our best players leave in droves. We cant even stop them leaving to screw us over with our former main rival. ( not actually a rival anymore i think most would agree ) yeah , definitely on the up we are . Rosy .
Arsenal FC Founded: 1886 waited untill 1996 for Arsene Wenger . Now sorted forever . Is this your AFC ?
I hope you dont mind me commenting here, you have alot of very passionate supporters here and I understand that with signings being made by other clubs you feel the need to improve as well and you know your team better than me, but can I turn the clock back a couple of months, from February to May you showed Champions form, you were the most consistent team in the league and seemed to have learnt how to win matches ugly when you had to, now I realise that you want to improve and challenge for the league again, but you now have one of only 2 managers in the league who knows how to win the league and your young players have another years experience under their belts I really don't thinks its all doom and gloom for you signings I am sure will follow, but your man will not waste money just to appease the fans!
He shouldn't spend to appease fans, he should spend because he needs to. Even just keeping 4th place could be in danger if only Arteta and Koscielny are out with injuries for 4 weeks each during the season, as an example. Our team is extremely thin at this point. Suarez is taking all the attention, but our second choice players are the worst we've ever had to choose from in the Wenger era (I'm not as old as Cym to compare with the sixties, etc. )
I was there today with some Goon friends. Agreed, Galatasaray have great fans in small numbers (wouldn't want to be an away fan at one of their home matches though). Great banter between Arsenal and Galatasaray fans, my favourites: "Your wife has a beard" "You live with a Goat" "Your just a **** Fenerbahce" - Got them really angry A few less savoury chants about Drogba having AIDS, Turks having 'dirty skin' and 2 Gala fans being 'gay'. Every club has its idiots though.
Overall agree with you WY. Hate to say it, but the away fans in the corners made a lot of noise. I miss the days when our own were capable of making a noise that lasted for longer than 10 seconds
Think it's a problem with new grounds that didn't ensure the noisy parts of the previous ground were kept together...also it happens when a club gets "tourists" fans. I honestly think that with West Ham av 25k; Chelsea 40 plus k; Arsenal 60k; Spurs 36k; Fulham 20k; QPR 15k; Charlton 10k; Palace 20k; plus orient; brentford etc...I think that the level of fans that are passionate non glory hunting types has been reached...Arsenals atmosphere is suffering and I think Chelseas will if they go bigger as will west ham and spurs' atmospheres. It's also too expensive for many passionate fans to go...I managed to afford 5 games last season... 3 league (QPR; Sunderland and Southampton all in the cheapest category £35) ; 1 fa cup (coventry £20) and 1 UEFA Cup (£25)...and could only afford to take my kids to 3 of them.
I actually thought the atmosphere today was better than when I've been to the Emirates in the past, you wouldn't necessarily expect that in a friendly - especially with a higher than usual number of non fans in the stadium (like me). Not sure whether the club's 'Arsenalisation' policy has anything to do with, that seemed a little superficial to me. Colin - The biggest sufferers are going to be West Ham - that enormous stadium with spectators miles away from the pitch will be frankly terrible. Spurs seem to be making a conscious effort to retain as much atmosphere as they can with the move but we will see how successful that is. Sorry for going off topic slightly gooners.
I would just like to say that regardless of the results I've had a brilliant weekend. My four year old grandson absoloutely loved going to his first game
