Like him and wanted him to be our manager at the time, think he will do an OK job there, but nothing insane.

I think in the end we got the best outcome with Howe who has proven to be a top, top manager.

This second I can't imagine a scenario we would actually sack Howe; it would take something incredible.

He's still young for a manager and has a good CV, you have to wonder why he's going to Villa.

Could be a similar situation to Ancelloti at Everton, ie he leaves as soon as a good offer comes along. Lol.

If he does something half decent it's an extremely good stepping stone.

Don't think he needs to put himself in the shop window really his reputation is there to see - 3 Europa win with Sevilla and one again with Villareal last season.

I assume he's bored of the Spanish league and wants to be in the Prem again.... and yeah, doing well at Villa could potentially make a club like Spurs or Chelsea come in for him, leaving Villa to have a manager like Lampard, lol.

Villa must be offering him some serious wonga to prise him away from Spain. It's not like they are a top 6 team, so it's quite a risk for Emery. If it goes well then fair enough, but it could more easily be a black mark on his CV. I've nothing against him, but I don't really like Villa, so I hope it doesn't go well.

Villa are paying 5m compensation to get him,Steve Bruce would have taken the job for a fifth of that.

Yeah strange one really, Villareal 4 points off Champions League spots currently so you've got to wonder what the motivation is to leave for a team 3 points above the relegation zone over here?

It's almost exactly 4 years since they sacked him, and in his last match a Villa fan lobbed a cabbage at him. They must think he's even lamer than we do.... and that's quite an achievement.

Spanish league is a bit of a broken record tbf, not as predictable as the Bundesliga, but not far off and always a 2 horse race, he would never win it with Villareal.

I can only assume he's desperate to manage in the Prem again, and wants to use this as a springboard to manage Spurs, Chelsea, Man U etc. Villa are hardly a sleeping giant, and no doubt he feels like a knob now for turning us down.

If he gets it right then Villa could offer a very good project. While their backers aren't on our level, they have some serious money and Villa could be another to threaten the establishment. The more the merrier I say!
