The evidence (though perhaps coincidental) that he does impact games, is the fact that in the January run, where we didn't win once, honeyman wasn't playing. (if whoscored.com is right)
What’s the stats on his goals and assists? What’s the view of all of us who watch every game and see exactly what he does? I’m bored of this now. I’m not out to get the lad in anyway, and for his heart alone I wish he was more of an influence. IN MY OPINION, he is one of the major failings we have in the side when McGeady isn’t fit, a complete lack of influence, control and creativity on the centre of midfield. Now is anyone, seriously going to tell me that this area isn’t a massive problem, and hasn’t been for years? Cos if they are, they don’t watch the lads. Frankly, rather than single out George (just so happens that he was ‘current affairs’), in an ideal world we would replace the entire CM we had last season. The only one that actually did contribute, Catts, has gone already.
We were also undefeated in January. Three 1-1 draws, two against Charleton and Luton town, and three wins, though two of those were in the cup against U21 teams.
We were mainly undefeated throughout the entire season. Its the January run where we dropped a load of points and the other title contenders pulled away from us.
Nads, I said it might be coincidental. You asked for evidence that could support a counter argument and I provided it. Though I dont see why I need to provide hard facts and cold stats when you can justify your opinion by saying its what you observed while watching the games. I watched the same games as you, and I am allowed to form a different opinion based on what I observed. For both me and you, what we perceived is subjective. Personally, I thought he had a good first half of the season, got injured (which coincided with one of our worse patches), then didn't have as much influence once he came back from injury. Just my opinion based on what I observed.
I have no objection to your opinion mate, none whatsoever. The fact that we didn’t lose for a few games is just as subjective, you’re right, as my own opinion. We didn’t lose a whole heap of games when he didn’t play either. We lost 5 all season. I’ve justified my own opinion about 8 times now mate and folk keep quoting me, so I will continue to do so. You seriously think that short good run we had in February was lead by George? If that’s your view you are welcome to it but I absolutely disagree. He doesn’t win many tackles, he doesn’t make many goals, doesn’t score many goals, and hasn’t much of an eye for a through pass. We are getting deeper into WHY I don’t think he’s good enough now, and if you want to come back and tell me that he is indeed good at any of those key central midfield things, please do enlighten me mate. You won’t change my mind, there’s not a single CM that was at the club and around the first team last season that I would have any issues with leaving, as not one of them can control a game. I’ve dug it up myself. Senior games 101 Senior goals 15 Assists 5 Absolutely ballin’.
He did score a few goals, think he was our fourth or fifth top scorer and only got one less than Grigg and Wyke combined. Also while he didn't get many straight assists he was involved in a lot of moves that lead to goals, playing it out wide for a cross etc. Not saying he's mint but not many at all covered themselves in glory last season once the goals and form in general dried up.
