Come on mate, he gave him a proper punch in the solar plexus, he didn't chuck himself on the ground, he crumpled. What ever the rights or wrongs of the incident yesterday you can't compare it to punching Pederson with a closed fist, it was a good shot.

Yes sorry Saylor. Just seen it again on Sky Sports News from a different angle and the ref was running away with his back turned when Barton picked him up so actually he could not send Barton off because when he turned around they were both stood up and had each other by the collar. Ref then comes back and Saylor gives him the big elbow signal. Don't think the ref got any help from the linesman at all did he, he was probaly jogging back to so may not have seen Barton pick him up initially either.
Officials just guessing what happened really.

Ok it was not a pat, but it was not a proper punch either, more of a jab. Either way it was not hard enough to make a man collapse.

Point is that Barton got slapped on the head and if he had not of gone down Gervinho probably would not of got the red card he deseved, and if any other player had gone down like Barton did after being slapped on the head nobody would be complaining.

If it was the solar plexus then fair enough, but for me it looked too high and just in the chest which might of hurt a bit but it did not seem hard enough to make him go to ground against his will. Besides there are many many other incidents where players have been fouled/elbowed/hit and have gone to ground easy and there has been nobody accusing them.

I do not have much of an issue with Pedersen going to ground or Barton because it is FIFA and the FA who have made it that it you are fouled you have to go to ground to get the foul noticed, if you are fouled nowadays and you stay on your feet then you very very rarely get it awarded.

Agree with the OP. The way some of our fans defend Barton in every situation is embarrasing as well. If another player had done that and got one of our players sent off, people would be going ape-****.

Barton shouldn't of ragged Gervinho up, but if he didn't dive after getting slapped then nothing would have happened, such is the nature of the refs when it comes to Joey.

Yep, been saying for years its actually refs that have made going down easily so common because they never give a penalty unless the player goes down, it can still be a foul without the player ending up on his arse. If a player id fouled but trys to stay on his feet and then misses it should be called back for a penatly or there is no incentive at all to try and stay up.

He didn't see it. Would have felt Gervinho's arm going across his back, and then Barton on the ground. Then put 2+2 together to his own interpretation.

Taylor may have thought his arms were in direct proportion to his forehead so had the reach in that case, that or he thought he was playing inspector gadget.
