What press conferences ? when was the last time Short came out of hiding to face the supporters, Ashley is rubbish but at least he says summit. Them players better hide all next week, picking up easy money like they do. Certain to gan down now.
No mate, Short has speculated, and others have bought him bugger all for it. If as I said above, Bruce hadn't bought quantity and spent the same money on maybe three better players, then added another couple the following close season, etc., we would have a damn sight better squad now than we have. That's how e.g. Stoke have done it. Their improvement started years ago with Pulis buying Crouch and such like. They've added something decent ever since, and now they're miles ahead of us. That wasn't bought in one summer - it's been built slowly and carefully. I haven't checked it, but I doubt that Stoke have spent any more then us since 2010. What they have done is spent it more wisely.
Bent was a success however sold for a profit when we had no replacement. Whose despising was that. Gyan was sold for profit or we certainly broke even. Jordan Henderson was sold for £19 million pure profit. Some business descisions taken there. The appointment of di fanti, what was that all about? Congerton for me the jury is out.
Did you set up 4-4-2 mate? Was the game lost in midfield? Did Leics have 5 in the middle? I'll leave it at 3 questions!
it was 433, defo lost in midfield, they didn't look interested, Leicester we half a second ahead of us onto everything and they pressed fast and we couldn't retain the ball. They played 451
Sounds like suicide. Then again if you set up 4-5-1 and got nowt maybe some would have said he set the team up too defensively. We were flat today as well, fitness just wasn't there. Lacking a bit of edge, it'll come though.
New players bedding in mate, Darmian and Smalling looked fantastic mind. Everybody seemed to run out of steam, on both sides. Anti-climax given how excited I was this morning!
You just looked lame in the final third. I was enjoying it until the goal, then you took control of the game and made it **** to watch with the lack of penetration. Easily solved with the class you have, it's not even a problem for you.
I didn't like the game at all before the goal Spurs set out well, but they just got owned by possession football after that. We missed the intelligent link up play from Mata and Herrera, by the time he came on we were tired. Too cautious to commit men forward as well, understandable given we had a new keeper out a new RB and Daley Blind centre half. Result is what matters I guess. Looking forward to watching the other matches later.
Bent was sold for a little more than £10m profit. Gyan, I think, we about broke even on. But bear in mind when we wanted to buy him, Short had to lend us a couple of million to make up what we had available, so he would want that back. Put the two together and we still had roughly £8m in hand. Then, as you say, we sold Henderson for £19 (minus development costs). All in all, we should have had around £24m - £25m in hand for transfers (Shorts always said if we sell, that money goes to signings). And what did we do? Can you believe that we spent £1m less on Steven Fletcher than on Asamoah Gyan (bearing in mind that Gyan was right at the top of his game, and one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup)? I agree, it was bloody madness. But Quinn and Bruce handled the transfers, not Short. I'm certainly not saying you're wrong mate - in fact I think you're dead right. But Short didn't ever sign players. He's always left that to what's called 'football men'. That's where we need to look for mistakes.
I've said it before:Short is partly to blame. We have gone for the cheap and cheerful for the last few years. What we need now is one big sighing such as Moussa Sow. This will make all the difference. .
No, we have gone for the cheap and numerous. We've sold a Bent, and spent it on two or three Gardners - ok players but never good enough to take us on from where we already were. But I'm puzzled as to how people say Short is even partly to blame - he's never signed a player in his life.
