Where he says they offered reduced terms but couldn't agree. So if n'castle are indeed interested they now know 1) we can't afford to keep him. Or 2) the club don't value him enough to increase his wages.
Cheers for the support Glovepup, I told you he needs a bit. He hasn't blamed the club and he's trying to clear his name from false rumours. Like you say with the banter you feel if he could he'd love to stay. He hasnt made out he wants away, but that may be the result, if it is I just hope he gets the right club, which I feat Newcastle isn't.
We will wait and see. Hopefully once this is settled CP will be a bit more open as to what's gone on. Only fair to you fans. Just think CP will have a bit too much class and will allow rob to remain a "legend"....
To be honest Super, I very much doubt we will hear anything, its always the way. The only way in which we ever find out what "really happened" is via leaks posted on message boards and sites such as this. But even then we don't get the full story. One example being the Moo2 situation, we have been led to believe by a number of sources (yourself included if I remember correctly?) that Moo2 was dropped after lunging at Harry Arter in the training ground after he had recently come back from an injury, yet so many others have stated that Moo2 was a lovely, friendly guy, and to me Harry Arter seems like a cocky little runt. Glove P, I'm sure we would all leave our current jobs if another company came along with a doubled wage offer for us, but I don't really buy into that excuse for footballers, firstly, the average Charlton player earns roughly the same amount in a month or two that the average member of the public earns in a year, but perhaps secondly, because I love to hate greedy players. I'm sure none of us justified the departure of Jermaine Defoe or Scott Parker by comparing them to ourselves leaving a job for a higher wage, instead we (well at least some of us) chant "There's only one greedy bastard" etc. This greed would be especially true if Rob Elliott were to leave solely for money reasons, considering his apparant affection towards not only us fans, but the club itself. As for the comments regarding 'bad advice from his agent', I'm pretty certain Rob Elliott doesn't have an agent. Unless he has recently acquired one? [If that is the case then perhaps he had been considering a move elsewhere?]
Oh no- we mentioned Moo2 . but for the record, arter is tenacious but not a runt I think there is a Q&A coming up with slater? He's never been one to hold back in the past, so hope the question is raised.
Haha yes I was worried I was steering the thread into an awkward direction so we shall leave it at that, opinions on Moo2 are as divided as those on Elliot, almost as bad as the Parky* debate. Yes hopefully it will be raised with Slater, he seems a very open character indeed but I would presume he will hold back a bit if the Elliott saga is ongoing, perhaps if he has been sold/signed a new contract then Slater may open his mouth *Apologies for the offensive language contained within this post
Agreed, Mike and Ben, wrong club, wrong manager. There's aspects of this proposed move that baffle me completely - even for more money, even for a move to the Prem, why would you want to end up down the pecking order? Lawdy, it's early - my mind must not be working right.
He'd be better off sticking with us as our number 1, I doubt he will be Newcastle's number one and next season we will be in the same league anyway
Agree with Tewks that going to play for Papdew would be a wrong move for any player in our squad, it may be more money but Paps reputation for off field activities probably means his focus is always other than on the squad full time. Not a good role model. However, if the Dilsh is focused on getting noticed at a higher level this season then it might pay a short term benefit for him to go to the toon. If he gets one chance in front of the fans there and doesn't make a horlicks of it, he will be in the national consciousness as an England qualified keeper of which the nation has very few at top level. I think the toon still have to many quality players (Barton for one) to go down however bad Papdew is and being a possible no 2 at a club with that level of national focus is not a bad thing for the player. However the risk for Robbie is that Papdew and Ashley screw up big time, they do go down and he is still no. 2 when they are playing us next season. That would be an embarrasment for him - not for us.
He probably would be better off sticking with us for footballing reasons, but money talks. He will always get a clap from me, he has been a good servant and even while this was going on he's turned in three good performances. It's not like Spotty Parker refusing to play.
Sorry I cant compare the Parker or Defoe situation to this one, it's irrelevant to this discussion. He is not a stroppy so and so and to be honest if Parker is like that then why is he still playing in the Championship, surely it's beneath him! But lets not drag up that old debate, cos I hear it too much from the Charlton Live team. Some of them just cant let it go! Look at the end of the day I will not blame Robbie for leaving, it's a 'what if' situation. Would he regret leaving? maybe but he then may regret not leaving. It's a big decision for him. Robbie Elliot greedy? I'm not so sure it's the same league of the some of the greedier players out there, I see what you are trying to get at but on that basis 'I'm out'
I don't begrudge him leaving- Just know he saying that he is ''desperate'' to stay, and the club offering ''lower'' terms aren't entirely accurate. But we will let Slater address that in due course.
"WWOCB, the continued use of words like 'Parky' will result in a two day ban" Allhell PS - I hate Parky. Worth saying even under threat of a ban
100k Bid rejected! "The offer was rejected within minutes, and Newcastle then confirmed they no longer had an interest in the player. "We have contacted the Premier League today to register our concern at public statements being made by Newcastle after they withdrew their interest."
