Longstaff is offside in the build up, so they're saying he was interfering with play in the second passage, ie the ball is played off him and goes to Isak who does his magic footwork and sets Anderson up. Makes no sense as the defender just kicks the ball against Longstaff and the ricochet goes to Isak, Longstaff really didn't know anything about it. I that note Longstaff was great last night too, he's becoming very dependable.
It's not that mate he's not offside They're saying the defender doesn't play the ball and it's deflected off him towards longstaff. It's quite clear he kicks the ball ... the decision was absolutely outrageous.
Anderson is local too (maybe that's your point, not sure there). Don't have to chose though, Longstaff is looking at home in the team. Even with more purchases in the summer you'd have to imagine that if we get European football both of these will be in the squad for years to come.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.th...rson-offside-newcastle-nottingham-forest/amp/ They're saying he doesn't deliberately play the ball to Longstaff and as a result Longstaff is offside. Makes no sense cos Felipe deliberately tries to clear it, and his clearance goes to Longstaff, it's obviously deliberate. All you can say really is VAR is stupid and inconsistent. Would have been quite the goal, Anderson's first, and amazing work by Isak to create the chance. But at least we beat the dirty cheating ****s, really hope they go down know after seeing them play like that.
The question now is where does Joelinton spot back in? It may be worth him replacing Murphy in the front 3.
I know mate been following Anderson for years now. Looks a really good player that will definitely score goals
My favourite trio is Bruno, Joelinton and Willock but given how ASM seems to gave stopped playing then one of those can push up to have Longstaff in the middle I guess. Bruno is the only one you really feel the loss of so it gives up some buffer for absences and rotation I guess.
He's from Whitley Bay (where I'm from), but even so until the last couple of years I mostly knew him because of FM (sigh).
The problem is VAR has decided that he did not "deliberately" play the ball to Longstaff and so ruled it out. This is bollocks cos whether someone "deliberately" plays a ball is completely subjective and therefore not something you can decide on. And didn't deliberately play it to him? Felipe whacked it into him at point blank range, so how can it be anything other than deliberate?
Yeah I know mate that's essentially what I'm saying. I'm hoping he's the biggest thing to come out of newcastle for decades because of the things I've been reading over the years. He scored loads of goals and was a cut above the rest of the u19s and 21s. I was on here reading people saying he's looked **** every time he's played , but don't agree . He had a bad game vs sheff wed but he's had a few good cameos imo. Aml looks his best position not cm imo.
I guess I mean a more attacking role, where Joelinton also helps the midfield out. Joelinton has also shown he's very useful in the no 10 role too. Longstaff has cemented his place in the starting line up for now anyway.
Going to be a good player only going to improve he'll be training with better coaches and players daily.
I'm glad he's being played in his proper position now, not LCM. He is overrun in the CM position, he's much better on the wing. Felt good to have 3 geordies on the pitch.
Shame it didn't count but he's shown enough for me he can be a part of the team going forwards now. I think Cup games he'll get 10-15 starts next season if we are in Europe and a few subs in the league. Big season for the lad next year and hopefully he can get a goal this season as he deserves one. This picture though - 4 lads who've supported the club since kids! Only way it get's better is Dummy and Matty Longstaff jump the advertising hoardings to get in it! please log in to view this image
It is class that they are all geordies. Won't be many teams in world football at the top level with that many.
Why would there be? Geordies are not genetically predisposed to be World Class Footballers so unlikely that there will be more than 4 at clubs around the world.
