If you are trying to overtake cyclists while staying on the right hand side of your lane, I would urge you to read the Highway Code.

Lane assist *doesn't* force you into the lane, it adds resistance to let you know you’re veering off. Unless you’re extremely limp wristed you can still drive out the lane if you want.

And how exactly do get out of the lane, yes you have to cross the white line, and what happens when you cross the white line, yes if forces you back again - I drive around 50k miles a year, never had an accident for decades that was my fault and believe me - lane assist is dangerous

I thought if you indicated it caused the lane assist not to kick in though?

It does but if you are on busy town streets with parked cars and you have to drive between lanes you can't be constantly indicating because you will confuse everyone that you are turning off at a junction - it's hardly worth arguing about as it's well documented how problematic the device is - it's dangerous and there's no reason to have it - who is it supposed to protect- drivers who shouldn't be on the road who don't know where they are on the road

I swear some people don't realise they have indicators on their car. And half of the rest of them who do know use it the wrong way round on roundabouts.
Fwiw, I have no problem with lane assist. It's useful. And typically when it needs 'over-riding' it means I should be indicating (which I normally do unlike the majority of lazy *&%# out there).

The cross traffic detection assist can be both a blessing and a nightmare. There’s a junction round the corner from my house where people park all the way up to the corner, there’s often a big van right in the corner and even though it’s a 30 limit on the road you’re turning onto, it’s a big straight road and a lot of people are doing 40-45. You can’t actually see anything until you’re already out into the lane, the cross traffic detection lets you know if there’s anything coming before you can physically see.

On the other hand, you could be reversing out of a driveway and something else is coming along the road, it will keep slamming the brakes on and not let you reverse off until it’s totally clear. Usually quicker and easier to just wait for traffic to pass than it is to go through the menu’s and switch it off.

Nothing is perfect and useful 100% of the time but I’d say these things are better than not on the whole.

I'd have thought the lane assist would help a lot when you're pissed out your head. <whistle>

Will nobody think of the poor BMW drivers here?

They have to sign a contract when they buy their car saying that they won't use their indicators under any circumstances.

Lane assist must be hell for them.

For those that do indicate, I wish many of them would accept that it's a signal of desire, not an order everyone else must obey.

It seems to be at it's worst at motorway slip roads, where many seem to think they have priority, when in reality they're supposed to adjust their speed and blend in to the traffic on the main highway.

Isn't turning on the indicator just a way to turn off lane assist?

You sound like a total menace on the roads, can’t be bothered to indicate. Get the bus.

I do it, but don't understand why we indicate to join a motorway - where else are we going to go?
