Sounds like a dodgy battery, or other fault to me. I havent heard of only getting half the range. What was it?
I have had my Skoda Enyaq for ten months now. I love it, the acceleration is fantastic and it is comfortable. I have made several trip to and from Edinburgh on a single charge and down to Stratford on Avon with no issues. Charging has not been an issue 90Kw chargers are becoming more common so you can charge up while having a coffee. The majority of charging is done at home on a EV tariff for over night charging at 7.2p a Kw. So a full charge of 80 Kw costs £5.76 and that gets me between 300 and 340 miles. What’s more I can put other things like the dishwasher and tumble dryer on overnight at the same rate. I would never go back.
I had a 93 Estate until 2 years ago. 2.8 V6 petrol turbo Aero and it was a beaut to drive, esp when I was overseas and could punch across the autobahn. sadly the electrics went all skew-wiff and we couldn’t figure it out so had to retire the “happy car” as my son called it, coz it looked like it was smiling. now have a Nissan Navarra pick-up for long haul/all activities/camping/biking etc. Then an electric mini on a work lease for local journeys/my wife’s commute. It is great fun to drive. Super responsive, hugs the road and like **** off a stick… but the range is low, as expected.
It was a Vauxhall. Makkah I think. I looked on forums and loads said the same happened to them. It was “worn in” and had a few miles on. My guess is the batteries turned to **** due to being on charge for 98% of its life!!
Would make sense mate. They do recommend you run the battery close regularly enough and dont do constant rapid chargers. Hire companies probably rapid charge them all the time.
Best to keep it at a maximum of 80% charge and recharge at home when you get to 50%. I only put a full charge on if I am going on a long trip of over 200 miles.
A lot if people will have no choice other than to use a rapid charger unfortunately, as there are millions of households without a drive or other area to stand a car and charge it. I know a bit about the rapid chargers though. They operate in a different way altogether, using much higher voltage and current. Not really battery friendly apparently.
This is why we need lamppost and kerb charging points in residential areas, these will charge at the same rate as a home charger so can be used overnight. This is a major infrastructure project and needs governmental support both local and national. It is doable but there has to be the political will to do it.
Can’t see it working myself, you will have some Scutter in your road selling stolen charging cables on EBAY for a fiver.
You would need an account and a password to plug in so getting a cable wouldn’t help you. Remember that cables are locked in place when charging so they can’t just be unplugged.
^^^ This for me ^^^ To put it simple, hydrogen fuel cells are come at a pace, thus the government have given extra time for development. Re-fueling is the same as filling your car at the pumps now. A Mercedes truck is presently testing across Europe averaging 650km per tank full. Many manufacturers are testing towards homologation, Toyota, Honda, Suziki, VW, Audi, Mercedes, amongst others.with exhaust systems only emitting O2, Electric cars are not for me
My neighbour has just bought a Leaf, says new it is 30 k but as it is 6 months old he paid 16 k, seems a good deal Says he is going to get a charging point on his wall, will cost a grand, seems steep to me ( with Octopus? )

We got a charger on the wall for nowt. Govt grant for £500 and then got the dealer to knock the remaining £200 it was going to cost on the day I picked the car up. Not sure if grants exist anymore for homeowners. Podpoint is ours, decent service from them as well.

I hired a Tesla just to see what they were all about, and while the acceleration was wild (I drive a mapped BMW 440 and I’m saying this), it was an absolute piece of **** with rattles and clicks everywhere. I’ve no intention of making the shift over. None whatsoever.
