I couldn't give a toss how many wind turbines they've blighted the Cornwall countryside with if it costs the taxpayer more and still leads to a global net rise in pollution. It is the epitome of vanity politics.
Officer class, yes. Ted Heath too apparently, high ranking officer in WWII
Jim Callaghan was a sub-lieutenant in the RN during WWII.
Dying breed it seems

and a fat lof good it does us as consumers due to the bizarre way energy prices are set here .We’ve got quite a lot of wind farms down here. Makes sense we are one of the windiest counties in the UK.
Personally I’d like to see more, and small scale systems where a turbine can power the houses for a small village.
Far from being vanity politics as you put it, the UK produced 52.5% of its electricity from renewables last year. A lot of it from offshore wind farms like the ones in the North Sea.
I wonder what emissions this world cup has added to planet Earth, and the next world world cup. At least the BBC stayed at home in Salford....yet still jetted Shearer out there, that was one contribution that wouldn't have been missed if that **** had stayed at home as well.

Yep, it’s a ridiculous system to tie it into gas prices.and a fat lof good it does us as consumers due to the bizarre way energy prices are set here .
Gas-Led Pricing: Under the UK's "marginal pricing" system, the most expensive source of generation required to meet demand sets the price for all electricity. Because the UK relies heavily on gas-fired power plants, and gas sets the market price about 98% of the time, cheap renewable energy does not lower consumer bills.

TBF brb, it’s not either or. We do need energy independence, and like any new initiative (relatively speaking) there will be some pain. Absolutely worth it it in my opinion. We've been bombing the **** out of Gaza, Iran and Lebanon, while the Iranians have been lobbing missiles all over the shop and blowing up tankers. Russians and Ukraine are lobbing stuff at one another, and have been for years now. We must be seeing more space rockets launch than ever seen before, test ones, failed ones, ones that succeeded, burn baby burn, and the little ole UK thinks our net zero will save the planet somehow.![]()
Probably the only decent thread on GC is the net zero one. I don't contribute often but there are some genuinely interesting takes and insights there.

Anyone who thinks any politician with any semblance of power ever acts in the best interests of the common people is an absolute buffoon.
I totally disagree with their politics, but this is why people like Corbyn and Sanders will never hold any real power. Forget the premiership itself. I mean any power whatsoever. Because they are a rare breed of politician who actually care about the people they represent. Not a chance the money men allow people like that into power.
Miliband is part of the establishment working to make sure the big corporations continue to outsource pollution for extravagant profits, while we all foot the bill with constant energy bill increases and 20p bags in shops, because that's really going to make all the difference.

Was just looking at the latest channel crossings, 1,394 in the last seven days. 20 boats in total. Seems like they are not being deterred.
We should give France another half a billion cos I reckon that will definitely helpWas just looking at the latest channel crossings, 1,394 in the last seven days. 20 boats in total. Seems like they are not being deterred.
