How are Labour doing after their first 12 months

We elect politicians to protect our interests, supposedly. But we don't actually pay them that well, so when bankers and billionaires start throwing money at them, whose interests are they going to protect?

True story from my short stint as a cab driver for Addison Lee; I picked a bunch of traders up from some building in the City, and drove them to their Christmas shindig at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair. Earwigged their conversation, as you do. At one point they were talking about an African country which had just elected a principled left wing leader, who might make life difficult for the oil companies. One of these guys, with a Saffer accent, said "Don't worry, we're going to stuff his pockets with so much money, he won't be able to pull his trousers up".

Not all politicians are for sale btw, some do have principles. I still believe Starmer does; Mandelson clearly has none, and Starmer should have seen that.

Remember Dave Nellis (SP) back in the day - think he was MP for one of the Coventry wards - he refused to accept the percentage rise that MPs voted for themselves after they had rejected a similar (if not lesser) percentage rise for the NHS, Police, Fire Service etc, if I recall rightly...

Really didn't matter which political party he represented (although pretty sure he was Labour) - he commanded respect for being principled ... others did not...

Interest rates held at 3.75% as expected
Must be a big ( CRT ) TV !
LED and it is big 55inch but very old compared to todays models - well that seems big to me.

I really should buy a new one, just so it's faster and has ALL the smart features, but my logic will not let me dispense with a TV that's working perfectly fine aside from it's features - so I adapted it with Chromecast.

It's Samsung which I found is reliable and interconnected all my past other devices - but Samsung are **** for selling something that they had no intention in ensuring all the add ons remained with the product.

We all know why they do that, bit like Apple products, so you go out and buy the latest model....but I'm ****ing stubborn lol.

Yeah, understand all that.

My usual default "I'm uninspired" vote goes to the Lib Dems, purely because when they have ran our council and been MPs they've tended to do the best job.

My Labour MP for the past 10 years is a waste of space.
This is the time for the lib dems to come to the fore, Labour are unpopular, Tories are shot, reform will sink nearer the election, greens have grown but too annoying for most,I like Ed Davey but hes not taking advantage of what's happening, you hardly hear a peep out of him and if he is spouting then he needs to get a new publicist

When Ed speaks, he speaks sense.

The problem is that when Farage farts, the media report on it. They're ****ing desperate for him to be elected.

It's absolutely mental how much coverage that guy gets for a party that only has 8 MPs

It shows that the media is just a soap opera, looking for caricatured figures to point the camera at, and Farage does that well

He reminds me a bit of Boris, good in front of a camera, absolute joke of a politician behind the scenes.

But we've seen plenty of times, that people will vote for this nonsense because they are taken in with soundbites rather than actually studying policy.

If people decide let's try something else whether it's Reform/LD or Green can they really be blamed ?

None have the experience of ever holding office but if we're to judge likely performance by that we can always look at how low that bar has been set by the Tory's and Labour for decades.

Only one of them 3 that have any cabinet experience is Davey but that was a very minor position

Farage is way more comfortable and, indeed, erudite in front of the cameras than both Starmer and Badenoch ... undeniable - whatever anyone thinks about his politics ...

Aye, typical Spiv with the gift of the gab

Add in the 'Johnny Foreigner is trying to steal your jobs/houses/livelihoods' whilst he and his rich chums make off with the family silver and you've got the classic recipe for people voting yet again for somebody who works against their interests.

Why people don't see through this ****e though I'll never understand.

See that Angela Rayner may be mounting a challenge

My current level of political trust is at the point of "well, at least she's got big tits."

And add in the fact that immigration has been completely mis managed by the Tory's and Labour for decades and it makes it a very easy ball to hit out of the court.

I think this Labour government has been very solid on migration.
It's dropped significantly and deportations have cranked up. It's in fact been so successful that I am concerned if Reform get in they will claim credit for it and actually have to do **** all in government.

If Burnham isn't allowed to run, then the only one that will do a half decent job of them is Miliband.

Not sure I'm entirely comfortable with seeing 'mounting' and 'Angela Rayner' in the same sentence ... might need to rinse eyes with Optrex <whistle>
