The ginger minger keeps tellling councils to build houses becase we need 1.5 million per year to keep up.Not as much housing available as he had hoped from the Winter Fuel fiasco
There’s 375 local authorities or councils in the UK, so that 1.5m homes equates to around 4000 new homes per council. There’s also 8 million homes or 21,000 homes per council (I know this method of maths is not an exact science) that are over 80 years old. Simple logic suggests that we do need to renew housing stock and aging infrastructure associated with these houses. The ginger minger keeps tellling councils to build houses becase we need 1.5 million per year to keep up.
I think it’s around 700k empty homes. The issue is that councils would have to fund this and restoring homes would be both expensive and time consuming with no direct help from the government. It’s far easier to grant planning permission and let developers solve the problem.Might also help if we regenerated some of the existing (empty) housing stock
and then let town centres turn to wastelandsI think it’s around 700k empty homes. Different issue for me. Anyone, and I certainly include myself in that, who has bought something online has contributed to the decline of the high street. I’m not sure what councils can do TBH.and then let town centres turn to wastelands
