You need to show proof of your means, ie show that you have money or the ability to earn it and you also need a clean criminal record and then something called an affidavit of support, which is a written recommendation either from a friend, family member or employer. (Who is an american or US citizen)
Not sure how it would work as a business owner, but being America they would probably jump at the chance to have someone over there who is starting a business, so that would probably work in your favour. You'd probably need to give a pitch, like in Dragons Den, to the INS or whatever they call themselves now so they can determine the viability of your business.
Thats just semi educated guess though
I read through the Green card requirements a few years ago when I came back from California and I was like 'Right, I wanna live there' lol
Owning a business that creates jobs for US citizens is one route, but I think you need to invest something like nearly $1m into a targeted employment or infrastructure project that creates jobs. Not sure how that works for small businesses that would only employ 2 or 3 people, but if it's creating local jobs, then you'd think there would be a good case.
Easiest route would just be to marry Californian girl, but I'm not too sure my missus would approve of that lol
