Thing is mate, I could go out tomorrow and buy a property in certain areas up here for about 30 grand and rent it out for £500 a month. I’d ' all my money back in 5 year.

They simply aren’t worth the trouble because of the kind of tenants you attract in these areas.
thats why i said LA's and Housing associations as they are almost certainly either already housing those tenant or funding them via Housing Benefit

Ending the Non Dom status and carried interest loophole is part of that. The changes will be systemic, rather than going after particular individuals. I don't think HMRC has got enough staff to chase down individual wealth hoarders, although they seem to do a good job of punishing the little guy if he files his tax return late. Although the serious fraud office could and should be enacted better to deal with serious defrauding of the exchequer.

Anyway, this was from Labour's manifesto

The gap between the amount of tax owed and what the government collects rose to a staggering £36 billion in 2021/22 – an increase of £5 billion from the year before. The number of civil investigations opened into offshore, corporate and wealthy tax fraud opened by HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC) has fallen by more than half in five years.

The head of the National Audit Office has recently said that there is £6 billion a year that could be recovered through a concerted effort on tax avoidance.
yeah, Tories cut their budget, now they don't have the resources to go after the uber rich Tory donors.
Funny how that worked out, huh.

Anyway I imagine before announcing policies there's some firm who are paid a shed load off money to make sure these ****ers say and do the right thing to keep the sheep... public happy and that firm will have hired out their top man to advise the new PM.

The government go with okay so what's our FIRST policy? Hit the pensioners! This hired **** is on his phone to his mate Boris "you'll ****ing love this one."

New levels of stupid and at some point the shee.. People will vote in the Tories again.

On the contrary, I think get the most unpopular things out now and then when things have settled down bring out the stuff you know get's people clapping again.

Thatcher did all this, insane measures to bring down inflation, all when she first got in.

Yeah could be the way to go but still it's not a good move, couple of middle ground starters would have been a better start imo.
