Yep excluding the nursery, the big companies have been complacent on this. This is what my friend told me, that loads of businesses don't really think it will happen to them, and they only usually go for a basic level of protection not realising how sophisticated the hackers are.

Like you say, there have been loads of data breaches and a lot of them from household name companies that you expect to keep your data safe

Why should any of us give these companies our data, when it's clear that the levels of protection simply aren't in place ?

It's like supermarkets, get rid of all their staff, expect customers these days to their jobs for them, then complain when the stock goes missing. All self inflicted, I've got no time for any of them.

Don't really know the guy mate. don't think @Tel (they/them) was overkeen on him once, not sure if he's from Manchester originally.

I think Starmer could trigger a challenge from some in the party if he proceeds with this ID card thing.

I'd be surprised if the legislation got through parliament, but we'll see.

Not happening yet though, is it? He's Mayor of Manchester for another 3 years, and not an MP, so it looks more like he's maneuvering for the longer term.

I'd like to see Andy Burnham as PM, but not at the moment. This will just undermine Starmer even more right before a conference too.

Also, he's not even an MP at the moment, so there would be loads of hoops for him to jump through, even to be in the race/

Just seen a times poll that shows digital ID in a favourable light with the ‘people’

fraud, crime, benefits, immigration etc all as key points.

some fear it’s another measure of control, but national ID cards and digital ready ID’s are already used in most nations in the EU.

Maybe it’s a good way to get rogue decorators to pay their taxes on cash in hand work @Sucky

Think a safe seat would come up if he wanted/party wanted him.
Seem to think I read an article that he could run for a by-election as Mayor and if he lost, could still remain as mayor.

would expect Reform to make a massive run at whatever seat he went for out of fear for what he could offer Labour and the UK.

Long term yes, it would be nice to have an honest man in charge of the country. Hope he gains momentum.

It really isn’t. Decent enough bloke in some ways and does a good man of the people act but the job he’s doing now is incomparable. Might as well have Sean Bean as PM.

I disagree. There's always an excuse to have some **** of a man in charge so I'll just stick with my opinion that why not have an honest man in charge.

Nah. Don’t buy it. Bloke has had more leadership campaigns than you’ve had good dinners. Being mascot for Manchester is a more suitable gig.

It's not really about how many are in favour of it, it's how many are not in favour and if that percentage is reasonable in number the Labour party backbenchers will get jittery. It's that usual thing, oh it's only one more bit of id that integrates all ids, it's as you say a control, it's really the ulitimate control.

    7 July 2024
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said ID cards were not in the party's election manifesto and added: "That’s not our approach."
