Tories will bring back mandatory national service.

****ing liars. It's the kind of crap that comes with a general election they've no intention of doing that and it would be impossible to enforce in the modern world.

There will me some old ****s going "yeah that's what's needed for these kids" most of these people will never have served in the forces themselves and have no clue but they'll love that tagline from Rishi.

Rishi is literally just making up random **** at this point, to feed the rabid dogs in the right wing press.

Talk about press the self destruct button. <laugh>

I never ever had to do national service, and nor would I have wanted to. The closest temptation for me as a lad was Chatham Docks and the Navy, although we also had back then Brompton Barracks and a Gurka camp not too far away, no idea what's left, I think it's all gone. I don't really see any temptation in that sense for youngsters today, and with war constantly on our screens via news channels now 24/7, any thoughts of signing up soon loses its appeal. If people really want to do something useful go help a charity somewhere in the world. Yes sometimes we all say there is a lack of discipline but that needs to start at home, not in the forces, and most of the root cause is todays social media, rectify that if the the governing bodies want to do something useful, tictok being at the forefront of most of it. I've said before, our chruches need to be doing more, instead of churches standing empty, get some sense of youth clubs back, it certainly helped me as a child when life was problematic. Yes the military do help some, but that has to be a life choice, not one enforced. This just shows how out of touch Sunak is and I suspect he will get a slap from his party, or I would hope so.

Da yoof of today are informed enough to know any fuking war we are involved in is to make money for the pigs in suits and not to save nor liberate anyone.

For that reason alone national service will be impossible to enforce imo.

If you really wanna wake up da yoof and get them engaged in politics then this is a good way to do it.

Why would a 2nd generation afghan born here want to join the forces that ruined his parents country, then "saved" his parents country, then left his parents country hanging in the hands of the taliban again and when all the resources and dodgy deals were rinsed enough they moved onto Ukraine.

Yeh good kuck with that <laugh>

‘Generations of young people who don’t have the opportunities they deserve’

How about we pay them a proper ****in wage that reflects the cost of housing, or actually build some affordable housing so that it doesn’t cost a hundred times their wages to actually afford one in the first place

Could also get the wealthy to actually pay their ****in taxes so that our public services, hospitals, railways etc actually function as they should. And how about we give young people the opportunity to access higher education without landing them with £70k of debt

ffs

then they might actually have something to be proud of this county about and be more willing to offer their time for community projects instead of having to work three ****in jobs just to pay the rent

Just when you think the Tories are about as out of touch with young people as they can be, they come out with this horse ****.

I'm fairly certain thet when the details are released it won't be for all 18 year olds just those not in education , training or work .
If it is all 18 year olds that takes another chunk of people out the labour market plus will cause huge financial stress to the University sector though the university system is a ridiculous these days

If its anything like Norways "mandatory" conscription almost no one will be going, they will accomplish nothing of use and it will be a massive waste of public money.

It’s easier to give em the opportunity to die in a ditch in some flyblown ****hole, then drape a Union Jack over their coffins.

*This will not apply to rich men’s sons, of course.
