Pretty much. I just find it a little wild, as batshit as they are about every little thing, they're OK with trans people... while here in the west almost noone cares if someone is gay anymore (if anything these days it's almost treated like a perk), but lots of people hate the trans.

Looking at the scenes on SKY News from the Syria jails, you will not die that easily, but certainly will wish you had.

Truly horrific, tortured, crushed, in rooms where no one will hear your screams, stuff of nightmares.

Yeah I think it's easy to forget that Assad was such a brutal evil dicator actually.

Always in a suit, very soft spoken, looks like an every day politician type. What I am saying really is he's not the stereotypical dictator who is constantly in uniform, shooting a gun in the air like we have seen with the Hussains and Gaddafi. But he was just as every bit as cruel.

Thing is though although under Assad's instructions, his people carried out the torture and killings, where are those people now, in civi clothes blending in with those that are searching for their loved ones. Much like the people in any country who flee, we've absolutely no idea what atrocities they have seen OR carried out themselves. Sure I saw somewhere that 130,000 people are missing, it takes more than a few people to carry out a massacre on that scale.

The Assad government was supported by the Alawites, which isn't so much an ethnic group but a specific type of Islamic sect. I have heard them described as Islams equivalent to a Mormon.

That community is millions strong and many of them were in the upper ranks of the military and secret police. So those people are absolutely now in hiding and blending in, or on the run into Iran/Lebanon. I think several rebel groups will now randomly attack Alawite communities in response to the Assad regime.
