Happy with the 3 points, bored with the performance.

No player really stood out for us, Chiriches' bit of skill and his super block were the highlights of the game for me... Which says a lot baring in mind we scored two goals...

i'm probably being too critical. we're getting decent results overall and we're not even playing very well. - But i think that's why i'm being a moany little bitch. What's happened to our exciting football? it' like the life has been sucked out of us.

anyhoo, plenty of time left for the quality of football to pick up, but like RDBD says, we won't be able to use this "gelling" excuse much longer!

    Positives:
Chiriches was very good (even if Naughton tried to stitch him up on several occasions)
We scored from a set piece!!!
Eriksen looked very classy again, despite looking like he didn't get out of 2nd gear.
    Naughton is injured :emoticon-0136-giggl

    Negatives:
We are slow in our build up and need to be a bit more dynamic.
Lamela had a chance to make an impact and offered very little.
    Naughton is ****e.
Defensively we were messy. - naughtons fault.
fryers got injured. - probably naughton's fault. :emoticon-0136-giggl

The Hull games are shaping up to be the real test of AVB dogma.
If we play the same manner as against the Spanners, I would not want to be a PL
    season ticket holder this year.

It must be me.It seemed to be so boring. The halfway line circle seemed to have a magnet attached to it!If I could have a fiver for every pass the went back to that circle....well I wouldn't know what to do with all that money.
I kept waiting for our wingers to take on and open up their defence, but time and again, even Lennon, had to pass it back.
    Oh yes.....we won 2-0. BORING!!!!!!!

"but like RDBD says, we won't be able to use this "gelling" excuse much longer!"

To be more objective about it, set a reasonable deadline for proof that the "gelling" has occurred.
Shall we say after the final Europa group game ??
The season will still have 6 months to run at that point.

Is Chiriches our Assou-Ekotto replacement? Not many defenders do things like this in dangerous positions:

There's plenty of evidence that many players don't adapt for a full season. personally I think the "gelling" argument will still be relevant for the whole of the rest of the season, I'm afraid. We've brought in practically 9/10 new faces (including returning loanees etc)! This has been a proper overhaul of the squad and there will be many unknowns in this squad well into Spring I think.

Yug. We're at an awkward stage where we're neither out working the opp., or playing very well. Chiriches is a rea Spur, though!

    ****ing awesome post lenny. <ok>

completely agree about stats - all this possession is no good if you're not penetrating the opposition.

You've summed up really well how I feel. It doesn't seem right to be criticizing our team when we're getting good results, but I guess that shows how much the entertainment factor means to me. Hopefully soon we'll have the best of both worlds.

I believe we've got a new VDV in Eriksen, but a player who's still raw. However, he's one of very few in our team who i would say could become a world class player as he matures.

AVB better get a CL slot won in the meantime then.

It wasn't the best Spurs game we've seen. I'm not jumping for joy at our performance. I haven't been entertained, and that's the disappointing part.

Thursday games in the arse end of Europe, against teams we have no emotional connection with, are never going to be good games. The league side of the Euro cups are rarely exciting. Bare that in mind before giving the team (Naughton) a not606 post match crucifixion.

As sad as it sounds, Spurs not letting in goals is part of the problem. We're not letting in goals, so there's been no need to chase games. There's been no need for an amazing wonder goal with 10 minutes to go. Defoe's goal tonight would have been a wonder goal if we'd been 1-0 down.

I preferred the heart attacks Harry gave us. AVB's toothache will need filling and drilling soon.

PS. The first 45 mins of the Swansea game has bored me just as much. Thursday games in the arse end of Eur... <laugh>

I think it is boring because there is no stand-out player, they are trying to play as a team and it's not quite working yet. In the past when Bale or VdV or Berbs or Modric got the ball it was exciting, you expected something to happen. With the exception of Andros Townsend there is no one like that now. With our current team we are trying to keep the ball for so long and do absolutely nothing with it until the opponents switch off. It works but there is no glory in that.

However, there are a few green shoots so only time will tell. But at the moment, although we are from the Lane, we are not Tottenham, we are pretenders to that great name. We are like a shopping basket full of expensive ingredients awaiting the head chef and his kitchen staff to create a cordon bleu style dish. Currently we're more pie and mash, doing the job, filling a hole but not that exciting. Hopefully our team will evolve into a team worthy of the glorious Tottenham name, but until then we will have to dream.

If it was just the europen games that were so boring to watch, I don't think anyone would care, as long as we were getting results and not tiring out our star players.

But it's every single game so far.

the huffing and puffing is painful. - Soldado knows this better than anyone

"I preferred the heart attacks Harry gave us. AVB's toothache will need filling and drilling soon."

Just to be objective about this ...

The Arry teams at home would submit the opponent to a first half blitzkrieg.
And often be 2-0 up by HT. All good.
But equally often the intensity dropped in the 2nd half. The opponent got one back in mins 45-60.
And then 20 odd mins of panic as to whether they would equalise, before the final
10 when we often got a third.

AVB has the players to choke the opposition in a way that Arrys' teams never could.

    But dogma is dogma.
Arrys' approach every game is as equally stupid as AVBs' risk-averse setups.
There is a middle ground to be had, and IMHO AVB has the squad to make it happen.

I've turned over, that match put me off football. Sandro was the most exciting player tonight because you didn't know how many limbs the opponent would have left after he made a tackle.

    It's really quite amazing.

Spurs have played 14 games this season.

    Won 11.

    Drawn 1.

    Lost 2.

    Scored 27 goals.

    Conceded 5.

    Kept 11 clean sheets.

Equaled our best start to a Premier League season.

Are two points better off than in the identical fixtures last season.

And there are still people who find things to complain about.

Well done to Defoe for equalling Martin chivers European goal record of 22 goals.

Also our 5th all time scorer.

Not bad for a player deemed not good enough!

Tremendous result, well done to Spurs in general and AVB in particular.

We are now closing in on our very own all-time British record of eight straight European wins, a phenomenal performance.

It's been a very good start to the season overall, only 5 goals conceded in 14 which is a superb effort by the team. I think we conceded something like 17 goals, ie over 3 times as many, in our first 14 last season.

Two major reasons for this fantastic performance have been replacing Brad with Lloris, and once again Hugo was brilliant tonight, my MOTM. Another key reason has been the reintroduction of Captain Daws. Still some people on other sites, maybe here too, think Kaboul rather than him should in our 'best XI'. Ludicrous, and completely out of touch with reality. Once again we looked so much better with Daws on the pitch. I look forward to him trotting out in 'our best XI' against Hull on Sunday! Kaboul maybe on the bench.

I have nowt against Kab BTW and wish him well in his fitness fight, but boy do the Daws dissers make me mad

IF we beat Hull I think this will be our best start to a campaign in the Prem era, you might have to go back to the 80s to find a better one.

PS - was well pleased with Eriksen, would like to see him start on Sunday but accept it will be Siggy.
