It would seem unfair for Lamela not to get a start when everyone else who's looked good has gotten one. I'm reluctant to sit Townsend, though. I'm glad I'm not AVB. On the other side, part of me says it's time for Holtby and Eriksen, the other wants the only player who's been scoring from open play. It's great the crowd is really trying to help. It's funny how important it is. Thanks Blue and White, 1882 and everyone else who's been improving the atmosphere!
I'm happy for Townsend to be dropped, for all the praise he's received, a large part of that is England hype which he has largely failed to reproduce for Spurs. Few goals and few assists. There's no way he's good enough yet to be starting every game for us, forcing the likes of Lennon, Lamela and Siggy to share one space between them. I think we, and AVB to an extent have fallen victim to the media adulation which surrounds any young England prospect (see Raheem Sterling). We should be rotating in every position in my opinion, to keep players fresh and hungry, with the only guaranteed starters being Lloris, Walker and Jan.
If lamela can pack on some muscle over the course of this season, we could end up with two players with those characteristics you mention. - Andros being the other. Both lads are still young and could easily become that type of player.
Just to get it clear what actually is his correct position. Never can tell these days as everyone plays out of their proper position.
Only one commentator said that, Townsend ignored the point and started waffling on about how our defensive form won't last forever and we're going to struggle when we're not keeping cleansheets every week. He's always kind though
When Siggy touched the ball with his hand, the crowd near him shouted "handball!". I think the support for Sheriff at that point was too much. Made me smile though.
Lamela started off as a left winger for River Plate then moved to Roma where he played on either wing or in the hole. I think he finished last season on the right.
So he's been compared with Totti, Messi, Bale and Ronaldo in the last season or so? No pressure, Erik...
Be interesting if he plays against Soton, their forward Osvaldo having given Erik a slap at Roma or being a cheeky so n so!
Think you've read that wrong mate, "shut up, you're not Maradona" was Eriks reply to Osvaldo who was moaning he wouldn't pass to him, the remark got Erik a slap.
A couple of gifs of the Lamela run for the penalty: please log in to view this image please log in to view this image It looks like one of those stupid bits from old football films when one of the players just runs past everyone on the other side, sometimes beating more than 11 men!
A colleague of mine told me that Lamela's family moved to London this week. Maybe that's why he suddenly looked settled and confident?
