Hibiki and Japanese whiskey in general are very good. No hint of peat which is always good.

Have you tried Nikka from the barrel? Got an almost medicinal taste but it's strong at 51%.

I'm not really into whiskey straight, I buy American Bourbon's and mix.

 

Very rarely drink the stuff. If I do it’s a good single malt with just a little water. Never ice!..

I'm the same with the exception of a few whiskies. Can't stand anything peaty. There's a few decent Johnnie Walker whiskies too.
I find that quite a lot of the American Boubon's are too sweet, especially the cheaper brands.

 

I got bought a bottle of Tin Cup have stuck with it since.

Same with the peaty whiskeys. I think it ruins them personally

 

Completely agree. Bought my brother a bottle of Laphroaig a few years back not realising just how peaty it was, couldn't finish a glass of it.

All the Islay ones are peaty. Mainland ones are more subtle, I agree
