This ignores the fact that Gakpo has been our most potent attacker this season so far though along with the fact that MacAllister has been severely under par all season and doesn't look fit.
I am surrounded by Arsenal fans. We’re not quite at their level yet but it’s getting close! I think that Salah’s minutes need managing. Playing 90 minutes twice a week is a lot as you age. Your line up suggestion has some merit. Reality is we’ve changed just about everything, it’s not just about the line up, it’s the lost partnerships everywhere….quite a few on here knew it would take some time, quite a few on here are surprised at how disjointed we look currently…..quite a few of us are complaining - it’s the easiest thing to do as fans I guess, especially when you’re the champs and have just spent big for the first time ever. Expectations are set. I’d say that Arsenal fans know this but they’ve had no reasons for their expectations to be so high before Joking aside, I said it’s arsenals year at the start of the season (for the above reasons) and it’s no pleasure at all to say I was right. Zubamendi has transformed your midfield imo. You will win this season at a canter imo. take care jinxy SKKK
I think the answer lies somewhere within a happy medium. Frankfurt have had a lot of player turnover and, from what I've seen of them this season, they are great going forward but not great defensively. That's why I expected a lot of goals in the game - i just wasn't sure who for I'm happy with the result yesterday but i'm not under any illusions here. Our first 3 goals were a counter and two set pieces. It doesn't paper over the issues that Frankfurt thankfully didnt exploit well enough. There's still plenty of work that needs to be done to get this squad fighting at the business end of the season.
Can anyone on here explain the logic to me where Slot continues to jibe at Newcastle in relation to Isak? Honest question. Isak’s lack of fitness is entirely down to Isak. He went on strike and refused to train and then play with the first team squad. He refused to apologise to, in particular, his then team mates and was banished to train on his own until he did. He didn’t and, therefore, trained by himself until joining your lot at the end of August. Liverpool have had since then to get him fit. Isak is now injured it would seem but Slot fails to accept any responsibility in that even though he says Liverpool did confirm to Sweden in the last boredom break that Isak was fit to play two games which he then did. It would seem possible that he wasn’t fit enough to do that (the injury obviously could also just occurred on the boredom break) but rather than accept Liverpool’s medical advice was wrong Slot talks about ‘a smaller club’ and pre season. Slot referring to ‘smaller club’ being totally disrespectful to Newcastle and completely unnecessary. Also a classic case of deflection. If we were playing you I might get the link, the dig but as we aren’t, it comes across as him making excuses for mistakes made by Liverpool in managing Isak’s fitness. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not claiming Liverpool aren’t a bigger club than us currently. That for me is obvious. But why reference (albeit indirectly) us at all in his post match interview? He comes across as insincere, classless and pathetic. A huge step down from the likes of Shankly, Paisley and even Klopp in his early days.
Fair - I mean started Gakpo instead of Isak or Wirtz instead of Szobozlai is fine. There needs to be some rotation.
I don't think he's having a pop at Newcastle, he's just very openly honest with his thoughts. Took me a while to get used to it after he arrived.
The Mail (I know, I know) are reporting Slot as of last week saying Isak was 100% fit. If so, his comments last night make no sense.
That's true - he no doubt needs his minutes managed better this term. He doesn't need to start every game - but personally I would be trying my very best to still get the most out of Salah even if that means keeping one or more of the new signings on the bench. Been impressed with Ekitike honestly. Obviously I hope we do win it - still a loooong way to go though! COYG
I mean Isak is just better than Gakpo. I know who I would rather have in my squad. If you wanna put Isak and Salah on the bench go right ahead - I hope Slot agrees with you.
This is what you said - The Mail (I know, I know) are reporting Slot as of last week saying Isak was 100% fit. If so, his comments last night make no sense. We asked which of Slot's comments make no sense. You haven't stated any of Slot's actual comments just the reference to him saying that he told Sweden that Isak was fit to play 2 games. Which he was. So which of Slot's comments make no sense?
err both are in our squad and Gakpo has been far more productive than Isak as has Isaks main competition Ekitike
Wouldn't argue with that too much, is start those two too, but Gakpo has been better than Isak so far this season. On form, Chiesa starts ahead of Salah. Salah hasn't been great for a while, I do think he's grieving though, which would contribute towards the slow start.
