he did the same to me last night - trying to provoke a reaction. Peter is just a sad old man getting his kicks trying to wum over his anti gay views. Pathetic.
Quite sad when your views are 30 years behind the rest of society x

ignoring the current ongoing dispute situation, i thought i'd point out that the eight per cent of fans who wouldn't watch their team if it contained a gay player have already watched their team when it contained a gay player.

Yeah that’s what I read too.

The word ‘claim’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the sentence.

"What those running the game need to do is educate fans, players, managers, agents, club owners — basically everyone involved in the game."
He seems to think that if people go on courses they will change their mind. It's just not going to happen.
I go on courses to learn things I don't know. I dont expect to go on a course and fundamentally change my opinion.

Courses can educate people to the impact of their behaviour though, so even if, for some bizarre reason, you found the idea of two blokes having sex dreadful, being educated about how you’re reactions to someone coming out could impact positively or negatively on that person, presumably a valued teammate, might cause you to change your behaviour for the better, regardless of your opinion on homosexuality

If people don't like something they are not going to change their mind by "being educated". I don't think it's beyond people to think of what the impact on other people is.
I dont think that footballers are worried about what their teammates or managers think. I think it's more likely to be the constant abuse at matches they would get. I think there's more likely to be many fans supporting them as well. This is what will improve things over time - bring it out into the open - not "educating" people.
I've mentioned before, when I was training there was a guy openly gay and there was no problem with other workers in their 20s and 30s. It was the managers in their 50s and 60s who were negative.

That’s because the older ones would have benefitted from some education.
Even if others being educated did nothing more than give the person coming out the confidence to know the others had had some education then it would have been worth it.
The gay footballer, who I suggest knows more about the subject than me and you combined, seems to agree too so therefore it’s worth it.
Also means no one has the ‘oh I didn't realise’ defence if they do something ****ish afterwards.
