Probably so but as I don't read either you're wrong. If women are not equal they're oppressed, In all of the world’s major religions, women are deemed to be inferior to men. Women are men’s belongings and women can have no authority over men. According to the Bible:
“Men are superior to women, Jesus is superior to men and God is above all. Women should worship all of them”. (Corinthians 14: 34, 35).
According to the Koran:
“Men have authority over women, for that God has preferred in bounty one of them over another, and for that they have expended of their property. Righteous women are therefore obedient … and those you fear may be rebellious, admonish them to their couches, and beat them”. (The Koran, Women, verse 38)
According to the Old Testament and in Judaism, men in their daily prayer thank God for not creating them women. The Old Testament states: “Women are for taking care of our children and protecting us from sin”.
That a woman counts as only half a man in legal and financial matters is specified with great precision in the Koran:
“And call into witness two men; or if two be not men, then one man and two women” (Koran, The Cow. Verse 282) and “ God charges you concerning your children: to the male the like of the portion of two female” (Koran, Women, verse 11)

Seriously you are going to try and argue something about islam by plucking bits that suit your little agenda? You do realise this is like one sentence and not the whole Surah or did you leave that out deliberately.
I am not going to argue about the corinthians or the old testament, thats not my belief.
I see what you did there...if you want talk about we can do and discuss the whole inheritance stuff and if you are genuinely interested in knowing thats fine but if you are just doing it to try and point score then there is no point.
Is it the responsibility thing? I've read that before and I don't think that it really helps your argument.
Maybe there's another reason that I haven't heard, though.
I can give you various reasons and you will have your own conclusions at the end of the day and most likely wont be same as mine or other muslims, if you agreed with everything i believed then you would be a muslim and vice versa.
But the point has always been it seems most non-Muslims decide what is oppression for muslim women and not the muslim women themselves. Maybe they should go ask them instead of deciding for them, of course there are some women that are forced and thats as much in muslim society as it is in non-Muslims. That isn't a islamic thing, its more of a human nature of trying to control everything and everyone.
If non-white people hadn't complained about apartheid in South Africa, then would it have been ok?

If you are going to try and draw comparison atleast try and do it with something that would be comparable. There is a massive difference between the apartheid and muslim women oppression, unless you are trying to say that in the same manner all muslim women are oppressed and they only follow the religion by force. The same way I could say that the western women are used as sexual objects, but we both know thats not 100% true.
The thing is if someobe is going to debate something for either way then you have to know the subject matter yourself and not pluck bits out, not accusing you of doing it i dont know you well enough but most of arguments are based on snippets of information people pick along the way.

I am happy to discuss/debate with people my belief but there needs to respect from both sides and see each persons perspective and try to get an understanding of each other, when of the cuff remarks are made just to be insulting then that's not debating. I am on my phone at the moment so i will respond to your points properly when i am on my laptop with reference from islamic perspective, i am not sure how much you know about arabic language itself but to do a literal translation in english is not as simple as most people make it out to be though.

Have you studied all other religions in detail before choosing Islam? If you did, what criteria for 'proof' did you apply?

I did this over 20 years ago and came to the conclusion that I don't need to sell my faith or God to anyone...so if your not someone who believes in God then you come with an agenda a lop sided debate from the outset, more of a trap.

That's simply a nonsense argument. For what it's worth, and in answer to your question, I don't deny a possibility that a god of some description exists, but I've yet to find a religion that supports it.
You don't believe in one less god than an atheist, it means you deny by far the majority of gods and are one step away from being atheist.
It's not unreasonable to ask on what grounds you or your buddy dismiss the others, and then see how your chosen religion fairs against the same standards.

It's down to the individual to follow his own beliefs, when it is very much down to faith how can anyone argue that they are wrong?
If the fundamentals of that belief system don't stand up to the standards they apply to other beliefs that they themselves dismiss.
