Maddison was indeed toxic Terry knew him, yet still signed him!

I think Maddison was simply a panic signing, one of the very few who McCann would be allowed the finances to get.

Also, as toxic as he was, he did play very well under McCann by all accounts, so I sort of understand Grant's logic in getting him. It's very possible he had become worse while away from McCann, and Grant possibly realised only once he had settled into the squad.

We didn't buy Maddison, he was on a short loan so we could have a look at him.

    Panic signing ?
He was on loan so we could have a look at him and his loan was terminated early.

Yeah. You know panic signings can be loans... right?

He was a panic signing in response to losing our two decent creative players, who left the same day he joined.

I don't even know why this is an argument.

It wasn't terminated early, it just wasn't extended.

Would he have been a 'panic signing' if he'd have impressed like ALL the other signings we have made ?

Well yeah. I would call James Scott a panic signing as well. I think most signings on the final day of a several-month-long window are panic buys of sorts, regardless of the club. But that's obviously a definition that can change from person to person.

Harry Wilson was definitely a panic get when he came on deadline day. Hell, Grosicki was somewhat of a panic signing as we had lost Snodgrass right before.

Thankfully we've actually strayed away from the deadline day participation in most windows in recent seasons, but that might be more to do with the money needed than anything.

It's funny how the meaning and words and phrases change over time.

Imagine the Beach Boys singing about 'hot dogging' now.
