and TRAGIC that the future of our planet is decided out of ignorance and folly. Speak for yourself SH but IMO shortermism and greed is leading to the downfall of our people.
So a minority government that could fall at any moment, is now a majority government. Has there been a recount and a redistribution of seats?
If you read my post properly I correctly stated the obvious that the Tories have been and remain the most popular UK political Party. They were elected with the most seats and the most votes. Labour lost for the third time in a row and the Lib Dems were also rejected as an alternative to the natural party of government, the Tories. I have not added any mention of a majority. It is possible that the present government lasts a full five years, we will see.
I am pleased that you now accept that the huge majority you forecast before the election didn't happen.
We all know that implementing a new IT program can be difficult. I commissioned one that after three years was still not working properly. Our government is now advertising for someone to devise and implement one in about a year. They also mention that the requirements might change as talks proceed. What cloud are they living on? http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-40803267
It is not simple at all SH. London alone had 19 million foreign visitors last year - a number which dwarfs the number of EU. immigrants in Britain. You do not know the purpose of every person at the point of entry but the chances are about 20 to one that it is tourism - in which case they arrive, spend their money and then go bringing billions into Londons coffers every year. Are you going to stop legal Germans, Dutch or Frenchmen at the border because some politician has decided that the island is full ? I consider that a place where my girlfriend of 28 years is not welcome to be also a place where I no longer wish to be.
I accepted it, as everybody did on the night of the election. The Tories had a disastrous election campaign probably due to over confidence due to their stonking victory in the earlier local elections. Thankfully the electorate did not trust Labour and the Lib Dems. Political parties that voted for Brexit gained 82% of the vote. Unlike France's election where indifference ruled, the UK turnout was high. The Tories gained their largest vote share since 1983. Your predicted demise of the UK's two party domination could not have been proved more wrong.
Tourism will not be affected. I agree there needs to be a much stricter control and deportation of those deemed to be not welcome.
Big difference between what I would have liked or expected to happen and the actual result. But maybe middle England did speak by denying her the majority she was seeking, indeed any majority at all. It could well be taken that she was being told to go away and think again, but she is known to be difficult and stubborn and doesn't yet seem to have taken the message on board. It will be the MPs from the centre ground that will be her undoing. Labour and Tories are currently in discussions, and come September she may find that she is forced to change course which will then put her in direct conflict with the loonies to the right.
Who do you deem to be not welcome ? - known criminals (they can be deported already) or those based on their nationality or race ? You say 'tourism will not be affected' you have no assurance that this will be so. At the moment the pound is weak which compensates for any loss in Britain's image - and there may be a boost in tourism for a year or so because of that. But after - when the pound has stabilized (perhaps) nobody is going to want to come to a country where they do not feel welcome. Even American tourism will go down because the visas which are valid for the EU. would no longer be valid for the UK. Increased controls will mean that couples (such as my girlfriend and I) can no longer make a spontaneous decision to visit London for a weekend - and the majority of visits are of that nature. Putting up walls will have more consequences than you realize.
Your analysis of the election result seems as faulty as your predictions. The real reasons for the disappointing result was the proposed changes to care and the reduction in pensioner benefits which damaged the usually high Tory vote amongst seniors and Labour's reckless and untrue promises, particularly fooling many young voters. Hopefully Labour can sink to this level and get away with it only once. The government reaffirmed it's red lines on immigration and sovereignty last week. The Brexit course you prefer has been ruled out by the UK government and more importantly by the EU negotiators.
Sterling is currently enjoying its highest value for 10 months against the USD. I very much doubt tourism into the UK will be affected negatively, in fact it will continue to grow. Tourism to the popular destinations of the EU by UK citizens will be significantly reduced if the EU decide to deliberately cause delays, they have much to lose.
My analysis seems no more faulty than your predictions. The research carried out since the election does not support your theory. The UK government doesn't seem to have a position at present. It depends who you listen to. I cannot remember when a government was at such sixes and sevens. The EU have said they will keep the door open for a change of mind. The terms would clearly be worse than the current deal.
The government clearly set out its position last week, you need to keep up. We are leaving because of the result of the referendum result. Your memory of previous governments is obviously failing you. Brexit will provide a huge challenge no doubt, it would help if there was less glee amongst remoaners at the sight of any problems. Lord Haw Haw comes to mind.
Please SH stop trying to support the insupportable. You know as well as I do that the government is in total disarray. No doubt when your leader comes down from her mountain with the latest ten commitments you will gleefully take them on board no matter what they are. Maybe you would like to answer my previous question. ID cards for all residents in the UK?
I support the UK government of the day, which happens to be the best suited political party for the difficult job of extricating the UK from the EU. It is clear the Labour Party and the paltry remnants of the Lib Dems do not resonate with the electorate or contain many bright sparks. I'm sure there are several competent candidates awaiting in the Tory ranks if needed, the party is ruthless if its leader is seen as not the best option. I have no views on ID cards except I expect they would be very easy to forge.
