Read post... realise talking about value of wages....

I'd be amazed if Cabaye was earning more than Nolan.

Two brilliant quotes in this thread

"Pardew knew all along..." how the **** do you know that? Do you know Pardew, do you work for the club? No, you literally have no ****ing idea of this, you just want to believe it because it fits into your idea of Pardew the puppet.

"We will see a 50% profit when the figures are published" Utter tripe, numbers plucked from the air to again, prove a point. Unfounded, unrealistic and pointless.

What annoys me is this is the same bullshit that we get from the board, pretend facts and figures with no substance or backing. We had a good window, and a TERRIBLE last day - which has been built up by Sky to be the be all and end all. We do need a striker to push on, however well be fine without one - the lack of ambition is a different matter - but what riles me is the lies, and the cowardice. If Llambias had said "Mike loaned the club £140m and times are hard for everyone, the majority of money made from transfers will go towards servicing this so we can break even. We understand that there will be disappointment but this is the reality. " I would have been a bit disappointed but I'd understand, like all other fans I love the club, and we have some good players, instead we are strung along and the bitter taste left by this illusive striker not coming in has spoilt what has been a pretty good window.

I feel sorry for the players, particularly the new ones, as the anti-Ashley atmosphere at the next game and indeed in the press and twitter etc. can't make them feel comfortable. I also feel sorry for Pardew I don't believe he wanted this, why would he, it makes his job infinitely harder, yet he will have to face the press and fans, not the two guys in charge. And finally, I feel sorry for the fans, as I said, all we deserve is a bit of credit, respect and honesty.

For me, the subtext is that Ashley is selling up, and I think this means we will stay in this mid table stasis spending as little as possible, net, and reducing the wage bill, whilst ensuring we do stay up. So expect more solid signings, big money sales, contracts run down until thy joyous day, and let's hope whoever buys us next has a combination of Shepherds passion and love of a signing and Ashleys business acumen so we can get back to somewhere like the mid 90s without going bust and becoming the next Portsmouth.

So ill still be going to every game, vocally backing the team and trying to enjoy supporting NUFC!

    HWTL

    Rant over...

I agree there's no point throwing money away, but we baulked at paying more than £6.3m for Pieters. We could've had an incredible defence with him at LB and Santon on the right. And N'Gog went for just £4m, people mock him but I bet he scores a few for Bolton and he's better than Maiga, he'd also have injected a bit of pace into our otherwise lethargic attack.

A top striker was always going to be a tough ask in the current market, but we never looked like signing anyone decent, and we probably never intended to.
