Newcastle should be ashamed of themselves playing like that in a derby. When they come to LR if they play any better than that then they should be embarrassed.

'it does appear that Newcastle are on their hols already but to be fair you can't have it both ways. ie..digging them out for not trying today, and then hoping they don't try at LR.

Newcastle were totally pathetic today, playing with absolutely no belief - despite the lack of goals that Tyne/Wear derby performance was equivalent to us when we lost 6-0 at Fulham & 6-1 at Chelsea.

it probably gave Sunderland and Burnley a kick up the arris today, knowing us and Leicester won yesterday. thank god we won as it could have been a whole lot worse.

We don't want Newcastle being pulled in the zone......We need them safe with nothing to play for when we paly them.....
If we are not doomed by then...

Thought Burnley were good and I expect them to finish above Hull.

Still think Sunderland are crap and today did nothing to change that. Crap enough to finish on less than us with our run-in? Probably not unfortunately.

.....and us in with a chance to stay up and Leicester dead & buried when we play them!

I can just see that scenario and then we blow it by losing.

I believe sunderland dont get so easy anymore this season as today. Newcastle was utterly ****....

Different manager now tho, this one actually encourages attacking football, the last one didn't.

Good luck for the rest of the season anyways <ok>

Also your lads were really fired up for this one. They really wanted it and were the better team all over the pitch for the whole game. A great victory for you, unfortunately for us, but that was one heck of a great strike and deserved to win you the game.

Spending the money on Defoe looks like keeping Sunderland up. What a goal!

Didn't cost nothing mate, straight swap for Altidore.

Altidore was on 40k p/w, Defoe is on 70k p/w.

We are paying 30k more a week as a club, great deal for us <ok>

Thanks mate, I thought we deserved it today as well.

We are still only 3pts clear of the bottom 3 so still well in it ourselves. We looked toothless up front when Defoe went off, which is quite worrying as I don't see many goals at all in Fletcher or Wickham. Keeping Defoe fit is key for us as he is the only real quality we have really.

Easter Monday Football League games - In the Championship, despite not playing, Blackpool were officially relegated, and Wigan look to be joining them losing 2-0 home to Derby, whilst Rotherham picked three very important points beating Brighton 1-0 at home. Also not playing today, Millwall still need 6 pts + superior GD to catch Fulham, so really 7 pts.

At the top Bournemouth, Norwich & Watford all winning are sure free scoring teams, with 87, 79 and 82 goals scored already this season.

Paul Hart still unbeaten in League 1 picking up another 0-0 draw for Notts County, but still in the drop zone with Creepy Crawley winning and Orient also picking up a point. No goals in PH's team (HR style), but he seems to have tightened up Shaun Derry's leaky defence.
