Why are the Easter games being classed as a hectic period. Friday Monday no different to Saturday Tuesday.

I was staying with my older brother in Chester and instead of giving me an easter egg he took me to my first ever football game - Div 4, Chester v Stockport on Tuesday 16th April 1974 (it cost 17p to take me in and 5p for a programme).

The day before was Easter Monday and Chester had played Stockport at their ground.

Chester had also played at home against Brentford on Easter Saturday.

This was entirely run of the mill stuff and shows just how busy the Easter fixture lists were back in the day!

Traditionally hectic period. I'm sure I can remember playing 3 times over Easter years ago. Fri/sat/Mon ?
That was the case for years and was probably the reason a lot of promotion and relegation positions were sorted out over Easter back in the day . Even after Easter Mondays game we will still have Eight games left so the situation is not going to be resolved till very late in the season , most of the Leagues are the same .

Back in the day Fulham were perennial strugglers in the top division, Johnny Haynes era iirc.
Easter comes along and they got to play three London based club's and as if by magic they picked up max points to lift them away from the relegation zone, happened with other London club's as well but these fixtures weren't fixed course, northern clubs would travel miles to fulfil they're fixtures.

My first game was Good Friday 1963 against Stoke City.
0-0 in front of 62000.
We beat Portsmouth on the Saturday and then lost at Stoke on the Tuesday.
Horrible end to that season. A point at home to Chelsea would have seen us promoted.
We lost 1-0.

Favourite one for me was 79/80 season. Beat Newcastle 1-0 on the Saturday, then Wrexham 1-0 on the Monday followed by beating Shrewsbury 2-1 on the Tuesday. Remember being in the garden of our new house a month before we got married listening to the radio for the 2 away games

Was Jimmy Hill the cheating bastard associated with them back then?

I was at the Derby and it was mental. Proper ****e game then little Stan swivels and nets the winner. Up to that game it was in the balance. After it they faded away iirc.

I remember that time well, and have often wondered just who compiles fixture lists and how. Playing away to newly promoted teams was another bogey, we all have to play the same teams home and away so it matters not when, never washed with me. <ok>

Clocky that's another pet hate for me, we always seem to get a newly promoted team at their place as their first home game of the season when they are really up for it happens far to often imo.
