Yep , similar for me. I remember seeing a few of the Russia team including Lev Yashin looking through the windows of the old Cowies car showrooms !

Vaguely remember 74 but loved 78 and the ticker tape. Mario Kempes was magical and the Jocks v Holland was edge of your seat football...simply brilliant.
Favourite though, by a mile, was Italia 90...it had everything and we were pretty good then as well.
It was. The 3rd/4th place pay off was against the Italians and a bunch of pissed up Englishmen; far better than the final. The final was awful I seem to remember
Wasn't it Italia 90 that lead to the introduction of the back pass rule because of the negative and cynical football on display? Not from everyone but from a lot of teams. The final was awful I seem to remember
158 in Sweden
Can’t remember England
But can remember Brazil and garinshia

Made my day Vince, I was starting to think I had better give this one a miss, but Sweden 58, was my intro to World Football and all its magic, and they didn't come more magical than that Brazil team, winning the competition for the first time, with Pele making his debut on the World stage at 17, Zito, DiDi and of course the "Little Bird" Garincha, trying hard to master the Bobby Kerr banana shot.![]()
My Dad was at that game with my Granda! Always talked about Lev Yashin as the best keeper he'd ever seen!Taking photographs of Lev Yashin in action from the Roker End in 66. Can’t remember the opponents but I will have the photos in a box somewhere. What a year!
Yeah, and he also had a deformity of the knees which is supposed to have helped his dribbling. Was it Garincha who had one leg shorter than the other which helped with his crosses?

Oh yeah, I loved it at the time and the back passing didn't bother me, but apparently the powers of the time didn't like it. Somehow the lack of goals must have impeded the flow of the brown envelopes. That rings a bell actually. I didnt realise at the time co i thought it was great but later on ive heard on numerous ocassions that Italia '90 was a poor world cup, not pleasing on the eye.
Would have been Italy or Hungary if memory serves - which it doesn`t always these days!Taking photographs of Lev Yashin in action from the Roker End in 66. Can’t remember the opponents but I will have the photos in a box somewhere. What a year!
Italy were in the group, also N Korea but they played all their games at Ayrsome Park and I think they were group runners up. Not sure of the 4th team, Uruguay?Would have been Italy or Hungary if memory serves - which it doesn`t always these days!
