He's a good age, and exactly the kind of player we should have signed 3 months ago ! It remains to be seen wether we can convince him We would still need a quality defender though.
I hear that this transfer is still on, but is going to be dragged out until something official is released from either club, agent, or player. Buckle up! Sounds like we're in for a ride.
Its all going to hinge on personal terms.....assuming he even agrees to the move of course. But if thats the type of player the club are targeting for our next steps forward, then that is something they will have to deal with. Cue the doom and gloom boys if this one doesnt go through!
Be surprised if it did. Not sure it would even be too good a thing unless its the start of something even bigger happening
With all this being said, I have to say that I'm surprised that we'd be willing to spend this much on an English player. £6m would probably go much further abroad, and we've obviously been looking abroad with our signing of Kodjia. I'd dare say that with £6m and the kind of wages Gayle would want we'd probably land a solid player from one of Europe's top leagues; the kind of player that with the right coaching would tear this league apart.
I can remember seeing somewhere when we signed kodjia that cotts had said that he had been enquired £6million for a player, was this Gayle? Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
English players are sought after too, he may hold his value and theres no doubt about his quality. We have to accept that if we are really serious about moving up and being serious about getting to the Prem as the chairman has promised is his intention, there will be a period of transition. £6m pounds smashes our transfer record by about £3.5m, its a massive market move, we have to accept that the better players will look at us with an amount of suspicion, we are renowned for bouncing between level 2 and 3. its breaking that perception that is the difficulty now. I have always said that losing that play off final to Hull was probably a good thing at the time, (were we ready?) but in hindsight when I look at Hull and Stoke for example we got left behind, they have moved on and £6m bids for players are nothing to them. the perception is different for them now. We need the likes of A Dwight Gayle to get over the line before we can move up the food chain.
Very true, which is why I say it is NEVER TOO SOON to gain a promotion. Do it ! Do it now, while there still is a Premier League.
