I don't really understand how this is funny, your making jokes about how long ago we won our trophies yet you haven't won any apart from the milk cup. Perhaps my sense of humour has failed me or it really just isn't funny. So you are saying that as Norwich city you wouldn't swap our history for yours? 1 F.A cup, won the 1st division, 1 UEFA cup, the 2 most successful England managers, your having a laugh, yes I would obviously prefer to be in your position atm but wouldn't swap our history!! Even recent history I know it looks like you will do it this season but when was the last time you spent more than 2 concecutive years in the top division, we have done it more recently, qualified and played in europe.
Exciting times as the Time Team discover they have infact managed to dig a tunnel through to Australia whilst searching for Norwich City trophies after the success of their last dig in Suffolk!!
Don't be like that ptc. The Ipswich fact you missed which I think is most impressive is/was "unbeaten at home in Europe" record.
Sorry my friend but this post sums Ipswich town up Your Going to end up like Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday etc, It's inevitable. please log in to view this image
I spose the thing is, you're very happy with your current position, but it's all very average. We have a remarkable history. With that, here endeth the lesson. See you binners in a generation or two. At least you can still look back on your past.
things can change pretty quick. It was not that long ago that we thought we'd never play you guys again. Then there was the story of 2 managers. Plus alot of your fans bang on to us about your history although to be fair it only happened a couple of years ago!!!
I must confess I don't understand all the bitching about which club is best. Based on history it's Ipswich, based on recent times it's city. Simple. It does not matter what cups were won years ago or were not, the team that can establish themselves in the premier league long term and stay solvent will prevail in the end. This club will have increased support in the region and the other will wither and be less supported and find it harder to attract the better managers and players. Ipswich are in a transitional period right now and I really fear for them as a club if they go down. They have an owner that will not allow himself to be seen, heard or even speak to the fans, a Chairman that cannot seem to seal any deals for new players and seems to know sweet FA about how a football club should be run. On top of this there is an ageing crop of players that are on the "one last payday before retirement" bus. Most of the signings that have been made are terrible. The straw that may well break the camels back is the future "plans" for the academy that Ipswich have. They have always had a great academy that has produced a good crop of players on a regular basis. These have either been sold on and have generated cash for the club or they have stuck around and made a real difference to the squad. Overall it smacks of a club with no future ambition. If city manage to establish themselves like Stoke or Fulham then there is a risk that Town will simply become a club that is overlooked in the region. With dropping attendances and the fans in revolt it does not look too good for Town at present and if they were to go down to league 1 you would see attendances drop even further and then there is real danger. Past glories and cups do not matter in this situation, what good are they when you are in league 1 playing to 6-10k in a 30k seater stadium against clubs like Yeovil (no disrespect to Yeovil). A month ago I thought there was no way Town would go down because of the gap to the clubs below you, but now I am not so sure. The only reason city managed to stay afloat during the relegation was the fact they could still fill their stadium week in, week out. Town's supporters are deserting their club and attendances slowly are dropping. The truth is that the new prospective supporters of Town were either not born or were too young to remember the cups that were won and the successes. All they have know recently is mid table championship football with little signs of promotion. But hey at least Town won the UEFA cup 1981. Maybe Town fans can say that after Marcus Evans looses interest in league 1 and lets the club go to the wall.
Let's be honest - Town are in a terrible state, but all this talk of establishing as a long term Premier League is very premature. The players are below standard, there's no question of that. They are huffing and puffing and pulling off some decent results but some real quality needs to be signed, particularly in midfield, to be able to compete at that level. And it's your first season back. Bolton have been up there for a while now but they don't look too healthy. The only sides who can have any kind of claim like that are Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and that's it. 'Arry may be off to jail. Even Everton aren't in good shape. Stoke, Fulham look fairly secure at this moment but in a heartbeat that could change. Sunderland under O'Neill could become a force but he has a habit of spitting his dummy out and moving on. Pardew has done well at Newcastle but he loses two players to the African Cup Of Nations and results start to slide. Norwich aren't even at the races on Premier League stability.
I was not saying that we are a long term premier league club. I was saying that the first club that can establish themselves as one will have the pick of the local talent and will receive the better support. At the moment City look the more likely and Town look to be some distance from it. Of course it call all change........ I trust our board and manager and I think if we can stay up this season we can gradually establish ourselves and build. Do you trust your chairman/owner?
1p5wich's latest signing is a 27 year old midfielder, I have never heard of, from Hearts who hasn't played this year as he's been on strike. The only was is up for those binners.
A common mis-conception. Firstly, because you haven't heard of the players before it doesn't mean they are no good. Paul Lambert has assembled a group of players with all ability and never given a proper chance. Many are dropouts from large academies. We are the second chance saloon for the quality, mainly english quality, that has been jettisoned from our large academies. Mainly for overrated, foreign ****e. Secondly, when Lambert arrived at Norwich the first thing he noticed was that the players were desperately unfit. The proper training routines weren't put in place in the past, blatantly. He changed it and the difference was immediately noticeable. I can assure you, they aren't "huffing and puffing", these are amongst the fittest players we've ever had at Norwich (gigidy) and they play for the manager so they'd play today if they needed too. You've just described the premier league. Every year is a throw of the dice, no-one can predict it and thats why it's so popular worldwide. Our Chief Executive has a 7 year plan for premier league stability We are currently 4 years ahead on that plan, we're building something here.
