Good observation that - I agree. I think he plays RB at least as well as CB, but with Simpson back, and Hughes we are covered Ok there.
I think we have a good set of defenders but it doesn't help when changes are made EVERY ****ING WEEK. Some of those changes are due to injury but some are unnecessary.
Why all the fear over Hill? The club have as good as said he's going to be offered a year deal with a view to a coaching role thereafter, which would brilliant as far as I'm concerned. No problem with Dunne either, without these two and Green we wouldn't be sat in 3rd place now that's for sure.
Hmmm. I think that's a bit of a cop out to be honest mate. If a player is trying to force his way back into a side, he normally plays above and beyond himself when given the chance - not the other way round. I like him and he may well be the future but at the moment he's not the player people seem to think he is and certainly no better than either of the pensioners that are in there at the moment.
Very much this. Dunne has been a disaster waiting to happen over the last couple of months. My lad is apoplectic with rage at this (he's not one of Dunne's biggest fans!).
He is because he's got pace. Dunne gets blasted away by pace every time I watch him. He nearly gave Blackpool a late winner last Saturday by getting the wrong side of their player and then looking like he was running in treacle as the lad sped away from him. Ned's pace also allows the whole team to play higher up the pitch.
There is absolutely nothing wrong about a dunne contract extension. Been one of our better players this season despite his years.
According to Wikipedia he is 27 now and his birthday is in November http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedum_Onuoha
That's incredible. I was only giving everyone fawning over him the benefit of the doubt because he was but a lad and would grow into an accomplished player. But now I'm even more confused as to why people rate him so highly. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a decent player but again, he's no better than the other two. Yes he has more pace but his positional play isn't as good and I think the high line thing only sounds nice in theory, when in reality I don't think our line is any different with him in the side. I thought someone said before he was only 22
what worries me with giving dunne an extension and the club have said that they will give hill one. is that we do what we have done with aj and bobby and not take on board there weakness and class them both as players we can play week in and week out. therefore not go out and get a solid play in their place. since we went up and came back down again we have needed two solid strikers and two solid centre backs. this seems to have not happened.
Hill and Dunne are two solid centre backs and have missed very few games. There is no comparison with Zamora and AJ.
Dunne signed with a horrible injury record in recent seasons. Everyone one here was happy if he managed 10 games. He has proved both his fitness and class in his time with the club. A more deserved contract extension than this I can't think of.
They are mate...but they are not the way forward are they? i have no problem with Dunne getting another year. his experience will help us
I think Dunne has been superb for us this season and certainly deserves a contract extension. When you consider in what we have in Dunne compared to Chris Samba, I know who I'd rather have and he's a bloody lot cheaper too. Dunne always gives 100%, and which when you consider the other ex Premier League superstars we've signed recently and couldn't give a **** about us we're lucky to have a player of his calibre and character. Of course he has his limitations, age being the predominant one and with that is his pace. But his positioning and reading of the game overcomes this more often than not. We only notice this when he makes a mistake and I can only recall three major ones this season. Against Millwall, v Leicester and on Saturday v B'Pool. But this is probably due to him being over played because of a poor transfer policy and injuries. Dunne has been a huge positive for us this season, and I think we all take him for granted as to how he bedded into the team and club so quickly. He hit the ground running and it seemed like he had been with us as long as Clint, but that's what good pro's do.
Good praise there Nines. He's done very well this season IMO but I do think its caught up on him. His legs look gone and he's totally knackered. Maybe it would be time to give big Ned a run in there with Hilly and Dunne will be refreshed come Semifinal time.
I agree with you about Dunne's legs failing him in the same way that Chelsea's first leg has failed them, but I don't think it was the club's intention to use him as much as he has been. As for Ned, is he really that much better? He has a bit more pace about him and he is quicker to recover in most cases and I would rather of had him in the three situations that I mentioned above. Especially in the one v Leicester when Vardy scored. I think he might of got a block in due to his pace over that of Dunne. Ned is good at defending on instinct, but he scares the **** out of me when he is in possession. He can't pass. His distribution is diabolical for a professional footballer. If he can address this then he would be a first choice shoe-in. But then he probably would't be playing for us.
