Same with a lot of employers throughout my working life. As you state, if you are going to go sick, take the week, because it is the lesser trigger of taking two separate days.
They sound like a very uncaring company. If I went into a disciplinary meeting and they were unsympathetic even after that horrific tale , I would punch the HR woman ( I assume it's a woman) pull my pants down and **** on the desk .
Same with us , does not matter how many days off ( to a certain extent ) it's the periods of sick in a certain time frame .
They used to be good . Now my side has been split away , they are just being ruthless to the extreme . Like I have said , I was NOT disputing a I have a VERY poor sick record , but what on earth could I have done to avoid the last case ? Oh well . Get to Dec 19th & my FWW is gone ! PS . HR NEVER show their faces unless it goes to legal proceedings in our company . Keyboard warriors springs to mind . When you hear them on the phone , sound like they have just left school .
If you have a high sick record, you can sign a form giving your employer access to your medical history, i think what it basically means is they can write to your doctor, who in return will respond in writing, supporting your ill health. If they have stuck you on warnings, I'm surprised if this process has been bypassed on route to giving you a letter.
Apart from the period of absence for the car crash, how many separate periods of absence did you have in the prior 12 months? A period meaning from 1 day plus.
So you have to hang it out til 19/12/18, then you get removed from the procedure? The way it works in a lot of companies is, once you have had a warning it gets easier to trigger further warnings, so it can be really difficult to get off the process. But if you can keep a clean bill of health until the warning expires, normally you’d be golden.
If you can’t remeber mate it must have been a fair few and that’s why you ended up in discip, even though the last period of absence was certainly justified.
So it's in your head now ? If I'm reading you correctly, as long as you don't go sick until January 2019 you get another 3 strikes ? 19th December isn't long , you sound like you are prophesising your own sacking , just don't go sick or you will really have bigger problems .
Speak to your Union rep if you have one mate, and find out how the process works. Ideally you want to get your record wiped clean. That used to take up to three years in Royal Mail, if you’d had multiple warnings; but eventually they changed it so that your record was clear after a year with no sickness. Worth finding out. Not all employers are ruthless, but quite a few managers unfortunately see it as a badge of honour to show they are not afraid to sack people; and there’s always a chance you might run into one of those, so it’s best not to give them the ammunition. Even if you win on appeal afterwards, who wants that stress hanging over them?
It winds managers up tbf. Over the years I’ve had loads of young managers come to me and ask advice over a particular employee who’s sick record was poor.
Oh I get that . It's just they moved the goal posts . I am fairly confident that had I been able to take it to the next level , I would not have been issued the FFW . Also , although I triggered the procedure , I think I only just did it , and , because of the issues that caused it . I did not want to appeal the first warning . ( Think we have chatted about this before ? ) .
No . It's next month 19/12 . You have a point though , the closer it is getting , the more I a worrying about it .
