And that is the point now, not what happened and why (that was already beyond dispute from the Taylor Report), but why there was a whole societal wish to believe a pretty blatant government-organised disinformation programme not seen in this country outside of wartime. What was it that was SO important to The Establishment that they couldn't admit that an incompetent senior police officer simply lost control of a major sporting event and that led to 96 deaths? Why on earth did that truth need too be resisted for decades, with the whole apparatus of the state and judiciary (and tacit compliance of the Fourth Estate that applauds itself for supposedly exposing these calumnies) at the forefront of it?
These are the questions to take forward after this process, and if any citizen, or should I say 'subject' of this nation think that this was just an issue of drunken, ticketless fans getting out of hand then I suggest they should think again: do we control they people we elect and pay our taxes to run this country, or is the whole democratic process of government and policing an illusion that can be manipulated at will by those who crave authority but can never accept the responsibility that accompanies it?
With the pitchfork-wielders like Wiggins about, we can see why those shadowy manipulators think they'll always get away with it.
