    Watched it.....

    He's a tap in merchant.

    Nah kidding.
He was a great player KS, I would kill to have a goal scorer like him at CFC right now.

Our main beef is that you dont seem to be able to see the benefits of a player like Drogba and just focus on goal ratios.

I rated Drogba, I just disagree that he's up there with the RVNs, Henry's and Shearer's as one of the best PL strikers. As he had to many seasons where he sulked and went missing. On his day though I agree he could be unplayable:biggrin:

Better than Shearer and RVN not Henry. How do the stats compare if you remove free-kicks and pens?

RVN could not lead a line whatsoever which is why he was never played in that position by his managers. He doesn't possess the speed or the required muscular strength, the only times he had played that role was when injuries dictated it. After reading the utter **** and Wiki clippings you post then you have the temerity to accuse someone that they are you??

Even if he is not better than Henry, for example. He is certainly up there with Shearer, who was amazing 93-97 but merely very good after his injury.

"One of the best strikers" implies a list of more than one striker, ie several. He is certainly "up there" with them, even if you argue he is not better than them

I'd say RVN and Shearer were better than Henry too. Though Henry was probably the more entertaining to watch. Henry though never really delivered in big games, particularly in Europe, he never managed 1 CL golden boot, which just proved he struggled to score against the best defences. He was abit of a flat track bully in truth. Shearer is hard to asses as his loyalty to Newcastle meant it was always going to be tough for him to make his mark in Europe. He still won the Golden boot at Euro 96 and 2 Uefa Cup golden boots, and holds the PL record jointly with Ronaldo and now Suarez of 31 in a 38 game season. Shearer also holds the record for a 42 game season with 34 aswell, so I think he did enough to be regarded as one of the greats.

I'm not sure what the stats would be without pens and free kicks, though Drogba scored quite a few free kicks, whilst RVN never took any, so Id still be confident RVN would be well ahead on goals in open play. We where never like Liverpool getting 10+ pens a season, only a few of them would have been pens

How did he not lead the line, he played most of his career as a lone striker, he was outstanding with his back to goal. As for the speed comment, you really are clueless if you think RVN didn't have the speed to lead the line. From watching clips of both him and Drogba, I'd say RVN was marginally faster, watch the goal when he dribbles from the half way line against Fulham if you think he's slow, and that's with the ball at his feet. He was certainly no slouch

Get out of here! he could never lead the line as a sole striker then play people in, Drogba is unequalled in that since Alan Shearer.<ok>

You've had bad luck with strikers in recent years- so I think you tend to overvalue the one really good striker you had. He is head-and-shoulders, the best striker you've had this century.

Drogba had a few really good years- but he had an equal number of years when he wasn't anything special. A good player, but he can't really be compared to the top tier of strikers that have played in the Premier League.

Shearer, Van HorseyRoy, and definitely Henry were much better.

I honestly think as soon as you get a world-class striker in your ranks again (Costa?) you will quickly forget about Drogs.

It just goes to show how good RVN was when a Scouser even agrees he was a level above Drogba:biggrin:

Pure bollocks, sorry mate. Drogba will forever be a legend, his last kick for Chelsea was to win the CL ffs, that sort of stuff doesn't just get 'forgotten'.

I think anyone who denies Drogba was world class has a screw loose.
