If they're too self-important to catch a bus, they're too self-important to be driving a lethal weapon on the road.
It's some poor git who lives in the countryside who would have to get up at 5am, walk a mile to a bus stop, jump on 2 or 3 different buses, do a hard days graft then have to do the same in order to get home that I would have sympathy for. And if any young chap is prepared to do that to make a wage then he will probably have the right frame of mind to drive a car safely. Theres one or two young people who work at my wifes place, who do late shifts, who have to get a taxi to and from work. By the time they pay for the taxi's a large chunk of their salary has gone. Its hardly worth them going in. I bet that's soul destroying! I'm sure that they hope to pass their test as soon as possible. For them to not have the option to take their test until a few more years down the line is a bit harsh.
So some are saying 19,20 even 21. Im shocked at this. Just look at the things you can do at an earlier age. Fight for country in foreign land. Buy a house. Raise a family. Work and pay taxes. Travel anywhere in the world alone. The list goes on and on. Often we talk about benefit fraud. Now some want a 17/18 year old who has got of their arse passed a driving test and got a job. Pay tax etc. You want to deny them that basic right cos they are yo young to drive. It seems a strange logic to me.
Just ban cars & go back to horse & carts. No emissions & everybody would have nice, fertile gardens. I might put that idea to Jeremy Corbyn.
I originally said 18 years old but having thought about it, if you are old enough to work then you should have the right to drive a car. Unfortunately the 16/18 year old bracket probably have a larger percentage of people who abuse the privilege of being able to drive. Having recently watched some young tit doing donuts on the mini roundabout in the centre of Annfield Plain I realise that people like that are the reason why a lot of us think that the age should be raised. Maybe the only way to stop behaviour like that is maybe not to prevent people taking their tests but for harsher penalties for driving like an arsehole. For example, the young lad doing donuts in a built up area in a souped up old banger should be banned for life!
90 miles a day round trip! It would take me 3 days to get to work! And horses hate me, so thats a complete non-starter!
**** off man Blunham is git posh. Maybe a ****ing huge yank winniebago for him. En suite shower and everything.
Cheers Billy. 2 divorces, finally get myself back on track, a nice house and missus and you want me back in a caravan! You're worse than me ex
Quentin, I think that adequately solves my post above. Idiot driving was exactly what I had in mind. I've now changed my mind, and am 100% with you on this.
Ten housewives standing at their back door with shovels in their hand all hoping to win the race to the horse sh*t when the fruit man's cart pulled away - them wuz the days.
I'm 70 next birthday, hold a British, Norwegian and now a Thai driving licence. Had 1 minor bump when I was 24, and have been accident free for the rest of my life. Wouldn't want to take a test now, probably fail, but I think Im a safe driver considering the level of driving in Norway, and just cannot believe more people aren't killed in Thailand, the driving is absolute madness. I have to re-apply for my licence in UK early next year when I'm 70, then every 3 years after that. IMO people over say 65 should have a medical, with reaction tests to see if they are fit to drive. I've experienced young people driving the wrong way on a dual carriageway, fortunately the police stopped them before there was an accident. Sorry, haven't been on for a while, ......divorce,...... and rebuilding my house in Hua Hin has taken up a lot of time, but I'm back for a family wedding, and a visit to sol for the mags game, tickets in the Black cats bar.....(special occasion). Back to sunny Thailand end of month.
