I watched the Adrian Chiles documentary Drinkers Like Me and it thinking about my own drinking.

Maybe it's generation thing, but I only really drink on Saturday night. I don't drink at home.

So I guess I'm a binge drinker.

It’s not good for you. Drink every night.

Find a happy level of intoxication, maintain it throughout the week & up it significantly at the weekend. It’s far safer & healthier than binging.

You should change your name to TheCausal as getting people's names wrong is a bi-product of binge drinking :emoticon-0105-wink:<cheers>

I miss the whole social aspect of going to the boozer. It's not the same anymore. People either don't drink or drink at home. Bad for you that.
I can remember going out on a Monday In the 80's and the pub been packed.
No football on or other sport on tv, just a darts team or a pool team playing. And a juke box.
People going out socialising.

Agreed. It used to be Dom’s Monday, DartsTuesday, Pool Wednesday & Thursday was the weekend.

In them days if you wanted friends & to socialise you had to leave the house. Nowadays they have friends all over the world without leaving the bedroom. Internet has a lot to answer for.

Aye. What pisses me off these days in both pubs & restaurants is that you see groups of people not interacting with each other - just staring at those little screens on their mobiles.
No wife swapping anymore - just an exchange of technological upgrades to their platforms.

I'm a bit all or nothing when it comes to drinking. Monday-Wednesday I drink absolutely zero, but Friday and Saturday I properly binge it - my reward for working hard during the week!!

But Thursday has always been my pub night. My girlfriend lives in Frodsham, Cheshire where they really do have two or three brilliant pubs that have retained the community spirit of old. Independent venues, nice ales and a pleasant social atmosphere. Sounds like these sorts of places are a dying breed around the country unfortunately.

I was in Frodsham a few weeks ago, pleasantly surprised. However, my local The Railway in Hale is still as old school as they come, big fan of the place.

Drinks wise I don't drink Monday to Friday unless I get invited out with work but Saturday night is a big night for me with the cricket team usually. Never ever drink at home unless I have 'company' but that's only one glass of wine that aside I don't see the point of drinking at home!

Not sure what I think of Hale - pub/bar wise it always seems a bit too 'trendy' but probably are some decent places there I've not been to. But I definitely prefer Frodsham to Altrincham for drinking. Used to be a nice brewery in Frodsham but unfortunately shut down a couple of years ago.

I seriously doubt Hale, Frodsham or any other of these other posh Cheshire gaffs could hold a candle to Skippers or Pennine Rambler for community spirit.

I drink most nights( at home) and when I do it’s because I’m struggling to handle the fact Pennine has closed down. It’s broken me.

I drink to forget.

If Skippers goes I’m ****ed.

You know that advert about talking to your mates and it being a taboo subject if you're depressed and things? Well this thread is good.

I've been depressed and even tied a noose round my neck last year. I'm ok now but if anyone needs to say anything, they should do just that on here.

Sorry for being heavy, but as blokes we should talk :emoticon-0148-yes:

My formative years were on Kettlewell Close. Pennine Rambler was a must. Although I only supped the froth off my dad's Bass as I was about 7 at the time.

Ahh, happy memories of schooling at Dales and Belinda Carlisle in my head.

Mate, I was made redundant in July after 14 years for one company, I'm 45. I've been ****ting it the last few weeks with mortgage and kids etc as I have the kids half the week, I'm on my lonesome in terms of I have to pay for it all in my house. I h didn't have a noose but went to see my boss in London and he gave me the news a month ago in the pub. I got really pissed and I won't exaggerate I nearly walked into traffic, freaks me out now I did that. Nobody knows I did that, thank got they missed as I've just been offered a couple of jobs in Hull I really like the look of. Really bad form of me I know, but I had a major ****ing wobble.
