It all feels like we're in a weird downward spiral back to Colonial days. An island standing alone against those pesky foreigners, minor royals dancing with native black girls and ministers enjoying free holidays with the rich and famous ... ... all we need now is the boat race, a street party and lashings of bunting.
When I worked in London I played football for a team that had a pitch that backed onto the river at Chiswick. The boat race used to happen on a Saturday then 70s?. It was fun as the race was passing to stand on the wall and give them some stick. Both teams did this and iirc one year a boat sank, it was hilarious.
