No wonder this government isn't working ... ... anyone, in a new job, needs a few months to get things moving. "Cabinet ministers in the UK’s post-2019 parliament have lasted in their jobs for an average of just eight months, a report comparing political stability across 17 countries has found, with Westminster also faring badly on a series of other metrics." https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/17/cabinet-ministers-last-average-of-eight-months
Not surprising really. Boris employed a load of thickos to keep himself looking good and in a job. Not sure about Rishi. But who cares, the quicker we get a change, the better.
https://www.theguardian.com/comment...embership-policies?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other Up to folk whether to read or not, but has caused a bit of a stir in some areas. Personally think he makes some important points.
I disagree with his politics generally, but he is correct to notice that the differences between the two major parties is purely aesthetic, the difference in policy terms is a little bit over here or a little bit over there, which is odd when it seems most people feel like the country needs to change direction.
As an analogy this former DWP minister is claiming housing benefit for a second home when she already owns somewhere to live less than a mile away. Whilst the benefit claimant is merely seeking the dignity of somewhere to live as they don't own a property. Benefit scroungers on an industrial scale. Let's kick these ponces out before Xmas before they bleed the country dry.
Remember there was one that was renting out his “ second home” ( for which he was making all claims possible) for a high rent, and using just a portion of that to rent another place to work from
He is getting some grief but I struggle to find much fault. The current version of the Labour party isnt easily recognisable. They seem to be falling into the trap of grandiose statements the tories are known for. Reeves saying she will inherit the worst economic conditions since WW2 is just daft. Way too easy for folk to prove that is incorrect on lots of metrics. Labour have a great opportunity to win a major majority and do a range of worthwhile things for us. They seem afraid to be bold, and it is a shame. Hopefully once they get the keys to power they will realise the opportunity they have to do things for those in need.
It’s a tough one like. Starmer clearly has a ‘take no chances until we’re in approach’. I don’t for a minute think they will be so bland when in power but the mortgage increase messed people up so badly that there is also an economic caution. We have got ourselves into the ****e though. If economic caution to protect the fragile middle classes keeps the poor poor and the wealthy wealthy we need to change the economic system and caution doesn’t get us there.
Good points marra. Fell, I've had a wee few, so will read your link tomorrow and review. Good night folks x
It wasn’t just the Tories that have shifted to the right. The Labour Party have done, too. Tories are now like UKIP. The Labour Party are just the old Tory party 15+ years back. Mentioned several times on here, Starmer is a Tory with a red rosette on. There’s only right wing and right of centre policies on offer to the electorate. Left wing and people who class themselves as socialists must be feeling politically homeless.
I don’t think this is accurate, but I’ve read similar sentiments on more than a few occasions, I think the general population are not centrist, but most politicians are, here’s how I see it: Both parties contains two elements, a centrist element and a radical element, in Labour you can say that Corbyn and his followers were the more radical and Starmer more centrist. The Tories are similar but it’s a little less clear due to mitigating factors. The bulk of Tory politicians are centrist types who are constantly appealing to radical voters with rhetoric but it is never fulfilled because the politicians themselves find the rhetoric abhorrent. The Tories for example have overseen record numbers of immigration, they make constant appeals to the population who want to stop it, but never actually do. I think it would be fair to describe the bulk of Tory politicians as socially liberal, fiscally conservative, which is the exact inverse of the people they’ve been courting. Please don’t think this is any sort of defence of the Tories, the quicker they go out of existence, the quicker the country can recover in my eyes.
He does but I await the coward to call the GE, then we can all read the labour manifesto and raise The Red Flag.
October mate. Hunt gave the game away. Would rather it was tomorrow personally, but they seem to want to hang on, and on, and on.
I think they need the economy to improve, but how things are going on in the world, I believe they will be disappointed
It is madness. Chances are that wont be paid back in full. The whole student loan system in this country is bonkers. By that I mean you can get loans for studying all sorts of daft things. Now the govt are bringing in a lifelong learning loan for everyone where you can dip in at anytime, get a loan and study a small course at uni. Principle isnt bad, but it needs to be targeted better, not just widespread. I.e. if you are made redundant then you can have it, or returning to the workforce after a long lay off. Anyway, I wont start on our education system, will get me angry.
Police to investigate racist comments made by tory donor, totally undermining Rishis Conservative local elections campaign. He needs to walk away, he's totally out of touch with reality. He talks about all the great things the tories are doing, all the press are interested in is asking him about the racist donations.
Pretty good summary imo. It's too easy to simply say 'they're all the same' tbh ... ... there are Tories I admire but night enough. Whatever the case Labour will win the election, I just hope things improve.
