I reckon labour are looking on here for ideas. They are considering giving the vote to 16 and 17 year olds. I wonder if the population had the same level of different views as we did on here. Could be an interesting campaigning point.
Changing policies according to changing circumstances is one thing. Changing them, having been voted into power, is quite another. One is breaking promises, one isn't. Sunak has made five fundamental pledges, as PM, which already look to be crumbling ... ... six if you count his Coronation speech of integrity, transparency, etc, which sounded fake as he spoke.
I blame Labour for this myself. They have repeatedly and defiantly refused to produce a manifesto. Scandalous
So if you are in power and circumstances change you cant change policy? Sounds like compounding mistakes to me. Ask those who voted for Starmer in the leadership election whether he has broken promises to them or not.
This weekend we have the conservative democratic organisation making a new attempt to pull the conservative party apart. On the other side of the political spectrum we have the momentum movement threatening to do the same to Labour unless Starmer starts listening. Happy days when your two main parties spend their time trying to self combust.
Sunak isn't changing policies, that replaced Truss's, he's failing to fulfill his promises he only made a weeks ago. He's openly under attack from his own colleagues and facing a coup from Johnson ... ... it would be nice if they'd actually think about us for a change.
What were the timelines for these commitments? Weeks as you say hardly seems realistic to deliver the sort of improvement needed.
It'll be interesting to see what timelines these posters will impose upon a Labour government. And what excuses we'll be given. COVID and Ukraine anyone?
This is the worst govt in my memory. But sometimes the stories are maddening. The article quoted states they are difficult pledges but they remain committed to them. A parliament is a certain length of time for a reason. Crying out loud if they werent difficult they wouldnt worth trying for. Anyone can aim for easy targets and acheive them. Or say nothing, like the current opposition, and hope no one notices. I would be tempted, if I were a tory adviser, to call a snap election, put Starmer in, and say over to you. Lets see how they go with that front bench.
They're nonsense tbh mate, just more slogans and he knows it. He isn't going to stop the boats. The rest are just as flakey and unlikely to happen. He was panicked into making these bold statements, prior to the recent local elections, and they obviously weren't believed. It looks like he was hoping they'd help win seats but actually lost a thousand. I'm not claiming these can't happen, just giving an honest opinion ... ... after thirteen years they've made zero progress, on these five subjects, so the prospects aren't great imo. Little happened when there was a sense of unity, won't happen with all the infighting and fights with the Civil Service. And yes a Parliament has a certain term, this one has had three PM's so far and a rotating door for Ministers
Slogans are all front bench politicians seem to have these days. They are all fed by media people, non of them act with much authenticity in my opinion. It is just another popularity contest.
I've no idea how a Labour government would do, none of us can really know ... .. if they can be worse than the last decade Britain will seriously decline. I'm already worried after Brexit, the decline of industries and the way we're losing out to China, India, etc. There's too much foreign money buying up our property and too much of taxpayers money going to foreign banks who own our water companies, etc. They make enormous sums, pump shyte into our waterways and pay peanuts in fines. It's a shambles and the wealthy are too much in cahoots with the millionaires in the Tory party imo. Off to football matters now I have the rerun to watch
The front bench where people won't report alleged sexual assaults by one of them because they're too popular within the party?
That is a real horror story. I would go so far as to say of all the news stories about politics that is the worst I have seen recently. It must be a truly awful culture where that is the case. I am hoping something is being done we dont know about. I dont believe any party will overlook that to be honest.
Another point on this. A female aid, who raised a complaint, has has had two wait 3 years and go through her complaint twice being upheld, for the offender to receive a final written warning It is an awful situation. The labour party state they cant investigate if no complaint is made. Imagine making a complaint and having to live through 3 years of imvestigations. Hardly bloody surprising is it.
Remarkable (and predictable) how little is being said here about a shadow minister being accused of a sexual assault. I used to say on the football threads 'if that was Cattermole he'd have been sent off' If that was a Tory minister.....
