It's going to be an electronic solution. As I said we should have been working on since 2016 and was repeatedly told over the road that it was impossible despite the technology already existing.

We continue to lead from the front with this. Nice to see <applause>

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in the UK today, in his first visit since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year.

The UK government said he would meet British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and make a speech in Parliament later.

It has also announced that British training of Ukrainian forces will be expanded to cover fighter jet pilots and marines.

It's also expected the UK will announce fresh sanctions targeting Russia later.

Plans have been announced to train Ukrainian pilots to fly Nato-standard fighter jets in the future, a key request from Ukraine.

The expansion of the UK's training programme signals a shift, after the UK said it was "not practical" for it to send its aircraft to Ukraine.

Last week, Mr Sunak's spokesman told reporters that British military jets were "extremely sophisticated and take months to learn how to fly".

The UK has already announced plans to send Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, with Ukrainian troops receiving training in how to operate them.

No 10 said Mr Sunak would be offering to provide Ukraine with "longer range capabilities" to disrupt Russia's ability to target Ukraine's critical national infrastructure.

It added that British training would be scaled up this year, with a further 20,000 Ukrainian soldiers set to be trained.

What support has the UK given Ukraine?

Since Russia invaded in February last year, the UK has spent £2.3bn on military assistance, making the country the second biggest donor behind the US. The government has said it plans to match this spending again this year.

The UK has also imposed a series of financial sanctions on Russia and taken over 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Military equipment provided so far includes:

    • Several air defence systems, including Starstreak, designed to bring down low-flying aircraft at short range.
    • Challenger 2 tanks
    • Artillery including 30 AS90 self propelled artillery guns
    • Hundreds of thousands of rounds of 155mm ammo
    • M270 multiple-launch rocket systems with M31A1 precision munitions
    • Next-generation light anti-tank weapons, or Nlaw
    • Maritime Brimstone missiles
    • Armoured vehicles, including Mastiff patrol vehicles
    • Heavy lift unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems to provide logistical support to isolated force
    • Electronic warfare equipment

It's shameful by our government who prefer spending multi-billions on ludicrous glamour projects like HS2 than caring for people who are freezing and starving ...

... unless they arrive here without any paperwork whatsoever.

Meanwhile I can't take an old washing machine to the dump without going on a website to provide proof or address then need to make a f* k*ng appointment <doh>

As much as I think HS2 is pointless the govt did commit before we the reasons for the heating prices landed. To be fair also, they have spent billions on heating support. The politicians in this country have some odd priorities at times and are always reactive, but at times whatever they do will be wrong the year after. The sooner we move to a system that attracts the best brains in the country the better, as it stands we have political parties that have no interest in bringing in very effective people, for differing reasons.

HS2 is just plainly idiotic mate.

It was obvious, from the start, that it would never be finished, what is completed won't operate for a decade and the cost has increased by £50 billion ...

... and for what actual benefit.

    None for NE or NW.

Where better links are hugely needed are the cross country roads/rail East-West virtually all the way down the country.

All roads/rail leading to London, only helps London.

Sure he was being sarcastic mate.

I agree 100% the project was idiotic and remains so. Just not convinced any govt would have spent more on heating support if they didnt do it. They would have found some equally daft thing to do instead. All governments do this in my experience. Blairs knowledge economy, which saw an extraordinary decline in manufacturing, is perhaps something nobody can rebuild from. Can we honestly say that lengthy labour government were anything other than an a disaster for our country? In the same way the current crop are a disaster? We are a country with 2 choices in my view, both not up to it.

You always contrive some way to slag Labour off no matter what the Tories have done. The simple answer is we do not know that if Labour got elected that they would be a "disaster" or not .What we do know for certain is that the Tories ARE, and have been for 13 years now. That alone is reason to give Labour a chance. Unless you are a masochist that is.

Would anyone vote Tory and risk four more years of this mismanagement ....

... if it was a football club people would be shouting 'sack the board'.

They've had twelve years to make progress, I don't see any tbh.

To continue the football analogy.... If your teams centre forward had not scored for 12 games, would you give the bloke in the reserves a chance or would you just keep picking the non scoring forward as his replacement might not score?
