What a shambles, the first question at PMQs will be ... ... who's the unelected Prime Minister this time Mordaunt is only standing so it looks like there's a choice and a semblance of democracy. Sunak will be elected without needing to say a single word about how he intends to 'fix the economy and the country'. This is someone who was soundly rejected two months ago but will be Prime Minister this afternoon.
He's the political twin brother of Roy Keane. Arrogant, outspoken, boastful and thinks he's way better than everyone else including people working with him and for him. Management is based on threats, bullying, sackings and setting people against each other. Carrying people along on a wave of adrenalin, shouting and fear works really well, for a while, but has to be backed up with planning, integrity and cooperation ... ... they both miss the point that other opinions are available, cost nothing and can sometimes be quite good.
Tbf we only need to go back six weeks to find out what he's going to do. I'm not sure why we'd want another two months of parliament effectively suspended while Sunak and Mordaunt tell us exactly what they've told us before.
We need PR to reduce the size of the two main parties, and then a General Election called, that would be more democratic imo.
...and here we go again, yet another 'leader of the people' that has never had to ask for batter on his chips to make it a bit more of a meal cos he could not afford to add a patty and a fish lot was unheard of.
Why two months? Surely a thirty minute summary isn't beyond them and would reassure the nation that they know what they'll do and won't just make it up as they go along. Much as Truss did and look how that worked out. And let's not forget that what Sunak promised six weeks ago could've changed substantially ... ... there's been big changes in the economy and the task is much different now. As you know what Sunak will do, I'm sure you'll be happy to explain it to me.
For those interested, the four possible outcomes in the leadership election are: 1. Mordaunt doesn’t get the 100 MP threshold by 14.00 today – Sunak is PM 2. Mordaunt gets the 100 MP threshold by 14.00 hrs today – MP’s have an indicative vote with the result at 21.00 today 3. The loser of the indicative vote can voluntarily drop out this evening leaving the other as PM 4. If both candidates remain Tory members are balloted, with the result expected to be announced on the 28th October 2022
There is only option 1. and was before Truss resigned ... ... Sunak will be elected tonight if the King isn't watching the horse racing on Ch4.
That would be my bet Smug, the whole thing looks like it has been engineered to fast track the next leader
All you need to do is look back through his comments at the hustings during the last leadership contest. Tax more, spend less. The task isn't that different. Cost of living was on the rise, as were interest rates. We're just thirty billion quid down on what's now become such a large figure it's practically meaningless anyway.
If this charade went to option 4 the calls for a general election would be unstoppable and they know it.
Was that in the Tory Party election manifesto ... ... or just one that Sunak's made up. I lose track tbh.
The last time the vote went to tory members it worked really well didn't it. For everyone's sake don't cock it up again.
So instead of doing what he wanted to do six weeks ago, you want him to do what someone else wanted three years ago? It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off.
