Oxford, Mansfield, Ipswich, Leeds, and now Sunderland...

All clubs that have a significant proportion of fans that were deluded in the belief they're something they're not and came on our message board full of Billy big bollocks. <laugh>

Us? We're just enjoying these good times, we've experienced life at the foot of the league pyramid and being days if not hours from extinction, so that keeps us grounded.

Typical informed PL fan who of course knows all about our team. Just because you haven't heard of most of them, doesn't mean they don't have quality.

Giaccherini had a decent tournament in the summer and everyone is ****ing over him. I bet 90% of his "fans" hadn't heard of him before this summer!

Truth is the same can be said of you. There are a lot of new faces at Sunderland, the fact that you don't know them doesn't mean they are rubbish.

But it is true that fans know more about their own players than the other side. I supposse thats why we end up playing an actual game to settle the argument.

In the same way as i never take the opposition for granted just because they have only come up this year, you should not assume that a bad start under a crackpot of a manager means that we lack quality on the pitch. We have lacked it off the pitch resulting in some very poor performances. Now is the time for our players to prove that the old standard of form is temporary but class is permenant is true.

    At least I hope so!

But I never said your squad was poor or compared it to ours, I just objected to your statement that we have no players as good as Fletcher, Johnson or Giaccherini (sp.)

I agree that every fan thinks his teams players are better than they are and that's part of what makes things interesting.

RE Di Canio, don't you think it's funny that he is now the third consecutive manager you lot have discarded and said he was useless and the only reason you were rubbish, despite being a massive hero at the start? In a year's time you'll probably have sacked Poyet and you'll be saying he was **** all along too but this next guy is the one who will turn you around. Maybe there's some other factors stopping you moving forward apart from the managers...

That was my thought when I saw the thread name, Sunderland are awful at the back this year so hopefully we can counter the inevitable Jozy goal, if he plays. I don't think their fans are as patient with him as we were so that might help.

Their fans aren't patient with anyone. Most bi-polar fans in football in fact. The cycle goes as thus:

New manager - saviour and messiah. (Old one is and always was ****)
Achieve nothing more than treading water in the PL*
Manager eventually sacked - He was **** all along.
Short honeymoon period under new manager.
Manager is saviour and messiah (Old one is and always was ****, it turns out)
    Repeat.

This cycle has been ongoing since Roy Keane was there.

*Which actually is a decent achievement without megabucks, they need to sort their expectations out.

Funny comments on this thread, I've seen plenty of Sunderland this year, my best mate is a Sunderland fan, we are a much better team apart from a few obvious exceptions like Fletcher. I think we are on for a draw though really as they are desperate to win and the new manager effect is giving them a boost, why they hired that lunatic Di Canio in the first place I don't know but I quite like Poyet.

Exactly , we are a team , look at midweek against Spurs . Sunderland have underperformed this season but that was with Di Canio who was probably the craziest managerial appointment in Premier League history
They could have appointed any manager and got a lift, Gus Poyet is a decent manager

    What a strange game.

We were shocking against their nine men. 25 shots only 2 on target. That is a very worrying statistic against a poor team reduced to 9 men.

It was dead cat bounce last week against Newcastle, Sunderland were garbage.

Altidore has not improved one iota since his time here.

Vito got a better reception from us than the visiting geordies, and is clearly held in esteem by his former team mates and our fans. Maybe he will get a chance to establish himself now McShane has crocked their keeper.

I think SB will be very disappointed and worried by our lack of attacking prowess in the second half where we never really got behind them and put in wild cross after wild cross which their defence easily dealt with.We nearly paid the price.

All in all, it's going to be a long season for SAFC who looked well off the pace all game all over the pitch. Will it be the manager's fault yet again? No doubt in biploar geordie land Poyet has gone from messiah to **** in seven days <laugh>

Shame some fan from our twin city in Holland chose to sit in the visitors section with his Feyenoord flag. You lie down with dogs you get fleas, mijn friend.

Bottom line is 3 more points, another win, another stride towards safety, still only one goal conceded in 5 home games.

    (We need a striker!)

Magnificent save by Harper near the end, looked odds on a goal.

    Worth two points.

How bad were we; it was embarrassing, we couldn't score against 11, 10 or any amount.
