Douglas would certainly add to our aerial threat but he'd struggle on the deck.

I'd be happy with Douglas coming in as the extra CB we need and if Willo leaves then bring in Pearce. If Colo leaves then need another top notch CB.
I'd like to see Carroll come in and then maybe Kevin Doyle to add more bodies... becomes essential if Shola moves on.
On the basis that Carrol is only one to cost any significant amount of money then a PROPER LB and another winger if Ferguson isn't going to be stepped up.

Be a really solid signing. Him, Carroll, Winston Reid (free defensive cover) and Di Santo (free attacking cover) would do me, even if it means the only "transfer" is for Mandy.

I've stayed out of this yesterday, trying to get to the bottom of this, there are some rumours flying around but most of don't add up. This morning however Bayer Leverkusen enquired about Alderweireld at Ajax this morning which makes this story a tiny bit more credible as one of the targets of NUFC is now very heavily linked with a move to the Bundesliga. The more likely Alderweireld is going to Germany, the more likely it is that Douglas will go to the EPL. The two are somehow linked, don't ask me why, but they are the two hottest CB's in the Eredivisie atm, Martins Indi and De Vrij are also in the market but they are more expensive.

Cove, has Douglas had a good season and chilled out somewhat? What's the reasoning behind him leaving on a free?

Inconsistent, average and bad decision making defined his season. Twente couldn't sell the player last summer and Douglas refused to sign a new contract. That combination led to Douglas' downfall in the Eredivisie. Two seasons ago he was brilliant, but since then he never really improved and never really managed to get back on that level. Frustration and his mentality led to this happening in 2012:

Right, that seems pretty negative. Do you think a change of country and partnership with someone like Colo would settle him or make him worse?

Edit: Is this the guy whose sale fell through last year after it looked like he was part owned by 3 different agents or something?

think his dela fell through because he needed to be in Holland until the end of August to be eligible for Dutch citizenship and hence for the national team
