Unfortunately though Douglas has on field issues!

Benni's off field problems were just down to immaturity. I think his injury hell has helped him grow up a bit. He had ample opportunity to kick off last year when Pardew wouldn't pick him. The penny has clearly dropped with him. Douglas likes getting sent off and has acted like a loon onfield on more than one occasion.

Douglas' on the field problems have been blown WAY out of proportion since he got that triple red card, where he was wrongly sent off for absolutely nothing. Yeah I don't condone what he did, but it was at least understandable.

Cabaye made his fair share of gritty challenges last season. But I noticed he knuckled down more and stopped doing it towards the end of the season. Cabaye had his petulant moment, and Douglas is no worse than Cabaye or Tiote.

I've watched Douglas, and his standing tackling is very precise and probably around the same level as Coloccini's. Douglas is quite aggressive, but most of the time he's a model player. He gets in team of the week for his defensive performances.

His aggressiveness can sometimes be bad, but most of the time it's good, and it could be very vital for us next season. His Saylor-esque mental strength and passion.

If Carr and Pards though it would have been too much of an issue, they would never touch him.

I don't think it's right to say Douglas is a CB version of Tiote. Douglas is worse, except he doesn't make bad tackles out of over zealousness, he does it out of emotion, but he generally doesn't do it in or around the pen area, plus Douglas doesn't do it every game like Tiote does.

Douglas has a bit of an attitude, but nothing too bad. It's a bit of a concern, but he's not in the Balotelli/Cattermole/Barton category, that's for sure.

I have complete faith in the Newcastle staff who have not let us down recently with transfers. <ok>
