Steve Coppell is being quoted as prime contender for Palace but he has run Palace on 4 separate occasions and after saying he had lost all interest in football management when he finished at Bristol City it is hard to see him having much appetite to go back to Palace at the age of 57.
Allen will know he is much more marketable leading League 2 than being, say, mid table in a year's time in League 1 and Scally will know he can maximise compensation now so they both have some interest in moving on as we all know it will happen sooner or later. Promotion this year was on the cards whoever was in charge so it is not the end of the world if he jumps. More of a worry is if he comes back in January and wants Nelson, Fish, Barrett, Payne , and Weston (or even some of them).

I think Curbishley will get it. One thing we the fans want though is a statement from Scally or GFC saying that Allen is staying. ASAP please!! (hope this requests finds its way back to the "right person" say again a statement from our club, to calm any nerves. Thankyou. Us Gillingham fans that want Martin Allen to stay.

A statement that a manager is staying is usually a good indicator of the opposite. Its a bit like a Chairman's statement of support for an under-achieving manager...it means he is going.
We need to look out for any sign that brb is lining up Steve Kean (for Palace or for Gills) there is some evidence that brb is his agent!

why on earth would the club release a statement saying Martin Allen is staying. A club has lost a manager from a division above. By that reckoning do you want 30 statements released every season ?

Martin has previously said that he will not chase the money any more, and only a Premiership job will interest him. He's moved to Gillingham so would seem to be settled. I don't believe that he will be interested in another job,now that he's beginning to see the results of his efforts here. I don't necessarily believe that any other manager would have got the results that he has. A lot is down to his signings, and would we have got the likes of Nelson,Barrett,Weston etc, who have made such a difference? We could easily have finished up a poorer side than last season, if Scally had followed his usual criteria of hiring the cheapest manager instead of a proven one. No,Martin will stay until either his contract runs out and he doesn't get another one,or the unlikely event of a Premiership club coming in,and is it likely that a premiership club would come in for a League2 manager? Premiership fans wouldn't stand for it, they all want big name managers or at least from ones who have done it in the Championship. I expect we'll get this sort of speculation from our fans every time there is a managerial vacancy further up the leagues, and it will all get very tiresome, and without foundation

It just concerned me being a good championship team and a London club thats all! There are other vacancies at championship teams but they dont concern me like the Palace job does!
